The Tamsui Grand Bridge is currently under construction, with its main bridge structure scheduled for completion by the end of 2024. Visitors on a river tour will already be able to observe its impressive form as it takes shape, offering a unique perspective of this engineering marvel against the backdrop of the Tamsui River scenery. The entire bridge system, including connecting roads, is anticipated to be fully operational by 2025.
The Tamsui Grand Bridge stands out as the world's longest single-tower asymmetric cable-stayed bridge, showcasing innovative engineering. Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, it features a distinctive harp-like silhouette with a single concrete main tower. This unique design minimizes environmental impact on the river and provides an unobstructed view for ships, establishing it as a prominent landmark at the Tamsui River estuary.
Upon its completion, the Tamsui Grand Bridge will significantly enhance connectivity in northern Taiwan. It is designed to link Bali District on the west bank of the Tamsui River with Tamsui District on the east bank. This crucial connection is expected to alleviate traffic congestion on existing routes, improve access to the Taipei Port, and facilitate a direct passage for the Danhai Light Rail system across the river.
From Taipei, the most convenient way to reach the Tamsui area is by MRT. Take the Tamsui-Xinyi Line (Red Line) directly to Tamsui Station. Additionally, several public bus routes connect Taipei with Tamsui, providing an alternative for travelers. For those seeking greater flexibility or traveling with luggage, taxis or ride-sharing services are readily available, offering a direct and comfortable journey.
To reach Tamsui Old Street by MRT, take the Tamsui-Xinyi Line (Red Line) directly to Tamsui Station (R28). Tamsui Old Street is located immediately outside the station, accessible via a short walk. For river tours often departing from Zhuwei Ferry Terminal, visitors should alight at Zhuwei Station (R27), which is one station before Tamsui, and then proceed with a brief walk to the terminal.
The Tamsui Light Rail (Danhai Light Rail Transit) does not offer direct access to Tamsui Old Street. Its terminal station, Tamsui Fisherman's Wharf, is approximately a 20-30 minute walk or a short local bus ride away from the Old Street. For direct and most convenient access to Tamsui Old Street, taking the MRT to Tamsui Station remains the preferred transportation method for visitors.
During a double-deck yacht river tour in Tamsui, guests embark on a captivating 'Twilight Seaway' experience. Departing from Zhuwei, you'll enjoy sweeping views of the Tamsui River, witness the stunning point where the river meets the sea, and experience a breathtaking sunset over the water. The tour also offers a unique vantage point of the developing Tamsui Grand Bridge and the enchanting city lights along the riverbanks, creating a memorable 'Blue Highway' micro-tour.
The Tamsui riverside micro-tour is crafted as a holistic afternoon journey, providing more than just a means of transport. It masterfully integrates a relaxing double-deck yacht cruise, allowing guests to fully immerse themselves in the scenic river views and the beauty of the sunset. The experience also includes a planned stop at Tamsui Old Street, offering time for cultural exploration and enjoying local delicacies, thus seamlessly blending sailing, sightseeing, and a picturesque sunset into one unique riverside adventure.
