ITINERARY:

We invite you to join us on this scenic drive to this magical winter wonderland. You can be sure that you are going to have an unforgettable experience of action and adventure at this family-friendly snow mountain resort. With its picturesque chalets overlooking the mountains and miles of cross-country ski tracks and toboggan fields, Lake Mountain is Melbourne's closest snow resort, which boasts a wide variety of cross-country ski trails and toboggan fields. Make a snowman, go tobogganing, or just throw some snowballs around. (There will be ticketed access to the Village toboggan run and Mini toboggan run).

We drive right up to the Lake Mountain Alpine Resort, so there is no need to take any lifts or get additional transfer buses to get onto the snow. On the mountain, you'll have 3 hours to take in the beauty and revel in the snow play, experience exhilarating toboggan rides, and enjoy the wide network of world-class cross-country ski trails or hike up to snow covered summit views. As part of the experience, guests will have the opportunity to support locals and buy something for lunch at Beechworth Bakery in Healesville or while on the mountain (at the guest's own expense).

We will then visit some of Victoria's tallest waterfalls, Steavenson Waterfalls in Marysville, before stopping off at the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery to get your taste buds tingling. The perfect way to end the day is with a deliciously smooth Hot Chocolate or some of their locally infused ice-cream flavoured with ingredients sourced directly from the kitchen garden. For those who have never been to a snowy destination before, this is an excellent winter wonderland escape.

FAQ

1. Are there specific admission fees or passes required for Lake Mountain visits?

Yes, visitors typically need to purchase a resort entry fee or pass to access Lake Mountain, especially during peak seasons like winter. This fee contributes to the maintenance of facilities and services, including snow play areas, toboggan slopes, and visitor amenities. It's advisable to check a reputable booking platform like KKday for current entry requirements and to purchase passes in advance, ensuring a smoother entry and potentially combining it with a tour for convenience.

2. What unique experiences can visitors enjoy at Lake Mountain during the snow season?

During the snow season, Lake Mountain offers a range of unique experiences. Visitors can enjoy cross-country skiing on groomed trails, tobogganing down dedicated slopes, and snowshoeing through the pristine alpine environment. There are also designated snow play areas perfect for building snowmen and having snowball fights. The panoramic views from the mountain summit are also a major highlight, especially when covered in snow.

3. What are the recommended transportation methods to access Lake Mountain during winter?

Accessing Lake Mountain during winter often involves a combination of driving and potentially shuttle services. Private vehicles are generally permitted, but snow chains are legally required to be carried and fitted when road conditions demand it. For a hassle-free experience, many visitors opt for guided tours, which often include comfortable coach transportation directly to the mountain, bypassing the need for personal vehicle preparations and chain fitting.

4. What are the typical operating hours and seasonal conditions for Lake Mountain?

Lake Mountain typically operates year-round, but its offerings vary significantly by season. The snow season usually runs from June to September, when all snow-related activities are available. Outside of winter, the mountain is popular for bushwalking, mountain biking, and enjoying the cooler alpine air. It's always recommended to check the official Lake Mountain website or a reliable travel service for the most up-to-date operating hours and current weather/snow conditions before planning your visit.

5. Which waterfalls are typically visited on a day tour exploring the Lake Mountain region?

Day tours exploring the Lake Mountain region often include visits to picturesque waterfalls in the surrounding Yarra Valley or Marysville area. Popular choices may include Steavenson Falls, one of Victoria's tallest waterfalls, known for its majestic tiered cascades. Another frequent stop is Keppel Falls. These waterfall visits provide a beautiful contrast to the alpine landscape of Lake Mountain, offering lush rainforest scenery and excellent photo opportunities.

6. Beyond snow activities, what other features or natural attractions can be explored around Lake Mountain?

Beyond snow activities, the Lake Mountain region boasts diverse natural attractions. In warmer months, visitors can explore numerous hiking and mountain biking trails, ranging from easy walks to challenging tracks, offering stunning views of the surrounding bushland. The area is also rich in native flora and fauna, making it ideal for nature observation and photography. The nearby town of Marysville offers local shops and cafes for cultural exploration.

7. What essential gear or clothing should visitors bring for a day trip to Lake Mountain and its waterfalls?

For a day trip to Lake Mountain and its waterfalls, especially during winter or cooler seasons, dressing in layers is crucial. Essential gear includes waterproof and windproof outer layers, warm thermal clothing, gloves, beanies, and waterproof footwear. If participating in snow activities, snow pants and jackets are highly recommended. For waterfall visits, comfortable walking shoes are important, and a waterproof jacket is useful due to mist or spray. Sunglasses and sunscreen are also advised, even in winter.

8. What is the overall schedule for a typical day exploring Lake Mountain and the nearby waterfalls?

A typical day exploring Lake Mountain and nearby waterfalls, as part of a guided tour, usually starts with an early morning departure around 8:00 AM from a central meeting point. The journey includes scenic drives to Lake Mountain for several hours of snow play and activities. Afterward, the tour proceeds to one or more waterfalls in the region, such as Steavenson Falls, for sightseeing. The return journey aims for an evening arrival, typically by 6:00 PM, back at the departure point, providing a full day of diverse experiences.
