Product Info

-What you can expect-
This cruise around the northern tip of Zante serves up plenty of camera-friendly scenery and swim stops in hidden coves. You'll see stretches of the island's most mesmerising coastline, including the Blue Caves and Smuggler's Cove – that famous Greek postcard of the rusting cargo shipwreck on a pristine cliff-ringed beach. Chrissy, one of our expert local guides, says, "the sea around the Blue Caves seems to glow electric blue because the white limestone underwater reflects the sun through the azure water."

You'll get to catch Zante's top coastal draws in one relaxing boat trip. We'll scoot around Cape Skinari, famed for its lighthouse, cliffs, windmills and pastel-blue water. After about two hours at sea, we'll reach Smuggler's Cove and the onshore shipwreck. Back in the 80s, a ship carrying contraband cigarettes ran aground in this chalk-white, pebbly cove. Nowadays, in order to preserve the area, the beach itself is closed to visitors, however, you'll still get to snap up iconic pics of the rusty ship from the boat. Chrissy adds, "Zante's best-known beach is only accessible by boat and it's one of the most photographed spots in the whole of Greece. A crime gone wrong has left us with an unexpected treasure."

After a dip, you'll continue to the shimmering Blue Caves, where we'll pause for a photo stop. Carved into the cliffs, the sea-smoothed walls form arches over the dazzling blue waters. You'll have Greek snacks and drinks on board, followed by some time anchored at a secluded beach gem. We'll end the cruise on a high note with some entertainment – Greek dancing – as we bob back to shore.

FAQs

1. Where are the Blue Caves located on Zakynthos Island?

The Zante Blue Caves are located on the northern coast of Zakynthos Island, specifically near Cape Skinari and stretching towards Agios Nikolaos port. These natural sea caves are formed into the limestone cliffs along the coastline. Due to their location, they are best accessed by boat, with numerous cruises exploring this scenic northern region of the island.

2. Is swimming permitted within the Zante Blue Caves area during a cruise?

Yes, many cruises that visit the Zante Blue Caves include designated swim stops, allowing visitors to experience the vibrant azure waters firsthand. The cruise product description confirms 'swim stops' are included. Guests can often swim inside certain caves or in the exceptionally clear waters just outside, offering a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the natural beauty.

3. What is the current access status for Zakynthos Shipwreck Beach (Navagio)?

Currently, direct access to the sandy cove of Zakynthos Shipwreck Beach (Navagio) by boat has been restricted by authorities due to ongoing geological instability and safety concerns. This means that boats are generally not permitted to disembark passengers directly onto the beach itself. However, boat tours still operate in the surrounding area, allowing visitors to view the iconic shipwreck and its dramatic cliff backdrop from a safe distance on the water.

4. Are visitors allowed to swim near the Zakynthos Shipwreck Beach?

While direct access to the sand of Zakynthos Shipwreck Beach is currently restricted, many boat tours to the area do include swim stops in the clear turquoise waters near the cove. This allows visitors to swim in the beautiful surroundings and enjoy the breathtaking view of the shipwreck and the dramatic cliffs from the sea, even though disembarking onto the beach itself is not permitted.

5. Are ride-sharing services like Uber available for transport on Zante Island?

Major international ride-sharing services such as Uber are generally not widely available or operational on Zante Island. Visitors typically rely on local taxi services for point-to-point transportation across the island. Taxis can be found at designated stands in main towns and resorts, or they can be booked via local taxi apps or by phone for convenience.

6. What are the recommended car-free transportation options for exploring Zante Island?

The public bus network connects major towns and popular beaches, offering a cost-effective way to travel. Taxis provide more flexibility for direct routes. Additionally, boat tours, like those cruising to the Blue Caves and Shipwreck, are an excellent car-free method to experience key coastal attractions.

7. What public transportation services are available for visitors on Zante Island?

Zante Island primarily offers a public bus network, operated by KTEL Zakynthos, for inter-village and inter-resort travel. These buses connect Zakynthos Town with various popular destinations across the island, including major tourist areas. Schedules and routes can vary by season, with more frequent services typically available during the peak summer months. Taxis are also widely available for more specific or direct transportation needs.
