On the day of the event, severe traffic congestion is expected not only around the venue but also on all modes of transportation. Please be aware of this beforehand and we apologize for any inconvenience.
The event will proceed as scheduled even in light rain. However, if severe weather (such as typhoons or strong winds) or rising water levels in the Shinano River make it difficult to assess the potential danger of setting off fireworks, the event may be cancelled.
Cancellation Decision: The decision will be made by the Nagaoka Festival Council on the morning of the event. Therefore, cancellation notices may be given by staff on the morning of the event or at the assembly point. If cancellation is decided on the day of the event, transportation costs to the assembly point and other related expenses will not be refunded; if cancellation is decided after bus departure, no refund will be given.
The walk from the parking lot to the viewing seats takes approximately 30 to 90 minutes (depending on crowd levels), so please be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes. Visibility decreases after sunset, so it's advisable to bring a flashlight.
Please bring your own raincoat. Please do not use umbrellas while watching the fireworks, as they will obstruct your view and inconvenience other spectators.
The official setup only includes blue waterproof sheeting. We recommend bringing your own cushion for added comfort. (Chairs are prohibited. Please do not go outside your designated viewing area.)
The venue is outdoors without a roof. Please bring a hat, sunscreen, and drinks to protect yourself from the sun and heat. As it is a summer night, please bring mosquito and insect repellent.
Sun umbrellas are prohibited in the viewing area. When using camera tripods or selfie sticks, please keep them at a height that does not obstruct the view of others.
This trip is generally operated by two drivers taking turns. However, according to revised regulations, if there is only one driver, driving safety will be ensured through driver rotation or scheduled rest periods.
The Nagaoka Fireworks Festival usually starts in the evening, around 7:00 PM, and concludes by 9:00 PM. It is traditionally held on August 2nd and 3rd each year. While exact timings can vary slightly, this provides a general timeframe for planning your visit to one of Japan's major fireworks events.
The Nagaoka Fireworks Festival is primarily held along the Shinano River in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture, Japan. The spectacular displays are launched from barges floating on the river, with main viewing areas situated on both the right and left banks, offering expansive views of the pyrotechnics against the night sky.
The Nagaoka Fireworks Festival holds deep cultural significance as a memorial and prayer for peace. It originated as a reconstruction festival after Nagaoka City suffered extensive damage during World War II. The fireworks symbolize a tribute to the victims, a prayer for recovery, and a strong wish for lasting world peace, making it a profound and moving event.
To best experience the Nagaoka Fireworks Festival, securing a reserved viewing seat is highly recommended to ensure a comfortable and unobstructed view without rushing for a spot. The festival is renowned for signature displays like the awe-inspiring Phoenix fireworks, the massive Three-shaku Shells, and the intricate, rapid-fire Starmine displays, all culminating in a grand finale.
The most convenient way to reach the Nagaoka Fireworks Festival from Tokyo is by utilizing a direct round-trip coach service. This eliminates the need to navigate crowded public transportation and complex transfers, providing a comfortable and stress-free journey directly from central Tokyo, such as Shinjuku, to the festival grounds and back.
While some areas may offer public viewing, securing a prime viewing spot at the Nagaoka Fireworks Festival typically involves a reserved seat, which often requires an admission fee as part of a tour package. These reserved seats guarantee a comfortable and clear view. For a seamless experience with guaranteed reserved seating, you can arrange your participation through KKday, ensuring a dedicated spot to enjoy the spectacle.
In addition to the magnificent Phoenix fireworks, the Nagaoka Festival is celebrated for its truly unique Three-shaku Shells, which are among the largest single fireworks launched in Japan, creating colossal and breathtaking bursts. Another highlight is the Starmine display, a series of quickly launched fireworks that form intricate and dynamic patterns across the river, creating a stunning visual symphony.
A well-organized Nagaoka Fireworks tour usually includes an English-speaking guide who accompanies the group throughout the entire journey, providing valuable information and assistance. For convenience, tickets for the reserved viewing seats are typically handed out on-site on the day of the festival, ensuring they are secure and easily accessible when you arrive.
