With its wild expanses of black sand beaches framed by palm trees, the south coast of Fuerteventura makes one picture-postcard backdrop for a kayaking tour. And you have the option to combine it with some snorkelling too, if you fancy delving in a bit deeper.

Pick-up from your hotel is all sorted too, so all you'll need is your bathing gear, sunblock and sense of adventure. You'll be taken to the school in the village of La Lajita for a briefing on paddling, then you'll cast off along the coast, gliding above the waves in the direction of Costa Calma.

You have the option to kayak for two hours with a guide or try snorkelling for 30 minutes and kayaking for an hour-and-a-half – the choice is yours. Either way, you'll have can't-keep-your-eyes-off-them views over the coastline, cliffs and villages as you paddle.

  • Kayaking is suitable for adults and kids from 6 years old

  • No special requirements or experience is needed

  • One child from 6 to 10 years can join an adult in a double kayak, but the child cannot row

  • The trip involves 1 hour of preparation time, where you receive a briefing on how to paddle correctly and how to get on and off the kayak, followed by 2 hours of excursion. The transfer time is on top of this

  • At the kayak school there is a bathroom, kitchen corner and lockers to leave your personal belongings
