Hitachi Seaside Park is situated in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, and is a vast national park. It is renowned for its seasonal flowers, especially in spring when approximately 4.5 million nemophila (baby blue eyes) bloom, creating an endless sea of blue flowers that evokes a dreamlike atmosphere. Additionally, the park boasts rich natural landscapes and diverse recreational facilities.
Ashikaga Flower Park is located in Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan, and is a world-class horticultural park. The garden is globally celebrated for its spectacular wisteria flowers, particularly a giant wisteria tree over a hundred years old, and its cascading wisteria tunnels, offering a romantic and charming view during its blooming season. CNN has recognized it as one of the world's top ten dream destinations. Besides wisteria, the park also cultivates a variety of seasonal flowers.
Hitachi Seaside Park is extensive. To fully appreciate its different areas and floral landscapes, it is recommended to allocate at least 2 to 3 hours. This is sufficient time to wander through the nemophila sea, admire other seasonal flowers, and explore the park's unique facilities. If time permits, a longer stay will allow for a more in-depth enjoyment of the park's natural beauty.
Given its unique wisteria waterfalls and diverse floral displays, visitors are advised to allocate approximately 1.5 to 2.5 hours for Ashikaga Flower Park. This duration allows you to leisurely stroll through the wisteria tunnels, admire the magnificence of the hundred-year-old wisteria, and take photos in various themed gardens, immersing yourself in the romantic ambiance of the park.
The main flower variety to see at Hitachi Seaside Park in spring is the 'Nemophila' (baby blue eyes). Every spring, hillsides in the park are covered in approximately 4.5 million nemophila, creating a dreamlike blue floral carpet that blends with the sky. This is a limited-time spectacle that draws many visitors. These flowers create a visually stunning 'flow of light' through the blooms.
The best season to view the wisteria flowers at Ashikaga Flower Park typically falls between mid-April and mid-May each year. During this period, the wisteria in the park reaches full bloom, forming purple flower cascades that pour down like waterfalls, including the impressive hundred-year-old great wisteria and romantic wisteria tunnels. The exact timing may vary slightly each year due to climate differences, so it's advisable to check the bloom status before your visit.
At Hitachi Seaside Park, the most recommended photo spot is 'Miharashi no Oka' (See-Through Hill), where you can stand at a high vantage point to take in the entire blue sea of nemophila. At Ashikaga Flower Park, the wisteria tunnels and beneath the hundred-year-old great wisteria tree offer excellent backdrops. Utilizing the drooping effect of the flowers can create romantic 'waterfall of flowers' shots. Both parks are filled with natural beauty, offering picturesque scenes at every turn.
As both Hitachi Seaside Park and Ashikaga Flower Park are located quite a distance from central Tokyo and in different directions, joining a day tour departing from Tokyo is the most convenient way to visit these attractions. Such tours typically include dedicated transportation, eliminating the hassle of planning complex routes and transfers via trains or buses. Visitors can easily depart from designated meeting points in Tokyo and reach each destination directly, saving travel time and energy for a smoother and more comfortable journey.
