Elephants are incredibly skilled at using their trunks for drinking. They can draw up large volumes of water by suction, and while the trunk serves as both a nose and a hand, they have precise control over its muscles. They generally filter out impurities before ingesting water into their mouths and can clear their nasal passages as needed, ensuring clean water intake.
