Ishigaki Island's largest coral reef cave, dating back over 200,000 years, stretches approximately 3.2 kilometers (with about 660 meters open to the public). It's renowned for its enchanting colored lighting, spectacular stalagmites, and unique Totoro-shaped stalactites, making it suitable for visiting even on rainy days or hot summer days. Restaurants and souvenir shops are available on-site, making it perfect for a family visit.
Yaeyama Village, Japan's southernmost theme park, is located near Nakura Bay on Ishigaki Island and is designated a National Tangible Cultural Property. The red-tiled old houses showcase the traditional culture and lifestyle of the Yaeyama Islands. Here, you can experience traditional handicrafts, enjoy Ryukyu cuisine, visit the squirrel monkey forest, and get up close to small animals such as water buffalo. You can even feed the adorable squirrel monkeys.
Kabira Bay, located in northwestern Ishigaki Island, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, is the most famous scenic spot, renowned for its "Kawabira Blue" waters, fine white sand beaches, and beautiful island scenery, and is listed as one of Japan's 100 best views. Swimming is prohibited in Kabira Bay due to its strong currents, but its clear waters make it a famous source of black pearls, and visitors can take glass-bottom boats to observe corals and tropical fish.
Glass-bottom boats depart approximately every 15 to 20 minutes from Kabira Bay on Ishigaki Island, with a journey time of about 30 minutes. No reservations are required; tickets can be purchased on-site.
Operating hours: 09:00~17:00 (Open all year round, except during bad weather)
Cost: Approximately 1,300 yen for adults aged 12 and above, and approximately 650 yen for children aged 4-11 (free for children under 3 years old, subject to change).
Features: View coral reefs, tropical fish, and sea turtles through the glass bottom of the ship.
Recommendation: On-site guided tours are in Japanese, and some operators provide Chinese guidebooks or introductions.
Payment: Usually only in Japanese Yen cash.
Tamatorizaki Observatory is located on the east coast of Ishigaki Island, offering panoramic views of the Hirakubo Peninsula and the sea off Ishigaki. From the observatory, one can see the beautiful blue sea off Ishigaki Island and the Hirakubo Peninsula, known as the "Lion's Tail." The difference in color between the open sea and the inland sea is clearly visible to the right and left of the Hirakubo Peninsula. The trail leading to the observatory is lined with hibiscus flowers year-round.
