Day 1: Arrival at Kurikoma Mountain Resort

Accommodation: Stay at Heilsam Kurikoma, a mountain resort located at an altitude of 650m in Kurihara City, Miyagi.
Transfer: Free shuttle service is available from Kurikoma-Kogen Station with an advance reservation.
Room Type: Maisonette-style Japanese-Western room (8-tatami Japanese room on the lower level, 6-tatami Western room on the upper level).

The Kurikoma Ancient Trail is a historic route where people and nature have intersected for over a thousand years. Used since ancient times by the Emishi, mountain ascetics, and Matagi hunters, and later developed during the Edo period as an important transport road, the trail preserves much of its original form. Trek through pristine beech forests, pass ancient stone markers, and experience the seasonal beauty of Mount Kurikoma while immersing yourself in the rich history and nature of this timeless path.
Morning:

08:00: Meet your taxi and interpreter-guide at the hotel.

08:10–08:30: Briefing on the history and course overview.
08:30: Depart from Sekaiyachi Parking Lot for a 12.7km trek (approx. 6.5 hours).
08:30–10:00: Trek through the junctions of the First/Second Wetlands and Omori.


Afternoon:

10:10–12:00: Explore the "Kurobe Giant Tree Forest" (4km, approx. 100 min).
12:00–12:40: Lunch break (Please prepare your own meal).
12:40–13:50: Trek to the Yunohama junction.
14:00–15:00: Arrive at Yunohama Onsen Miura Ryokan.

Stay at Yuhama Onsen Miura Ryokan – Lamp-Lit Inn in the Beech Forest (Japanese-only service)
Located on the southwestern slopes of Mount Kurikoma at an altitude of 700 meters, Yuhama Onsen is a legendary secluded hot spring said to have been discovered by Matagi hunters in 1824.
This traditional inn, which has existed since the era of the samurai, offers no television and no Wi-Fi. What you will find instead are the gentle glow of oil lamps lighting the night, breathtaking star-filled skies, and untouched primeval beech forests. Free from digital distractions, guests can enjoy the rare luxury of “having nothing” while immersing themselves in authentic Japan and pristine nature.

Please prepare your own hiking shoes, rainwear, towel, hat, drinks, lunch, warm clothing, and a change of clothes.
As some activities involve the use of actual machinery, for safety reasons, participation is limited to junior high school students and above. Thank you for your understanding.
If weather conditions or natural disasters are deemed dangerous, the tour may be changed, suspended, or canceled. In the event of cancellation, you will be notified the day before.
Heilzaam Kurikoma does not have private baths in the rooms; shared bathing facilities are used.
Please note that mobile phone service is not available at Miura Ryokan, and electricity is also not supplied.
At Miura Ryokan, toilets and baths are shared facilities and are not located in guest rooms.
