Product Info

Tokushima Prefectural Uzu-no-Michi Walkway

Uzu-no-Michi is a 450-meter-long walkway built within the bridge girder of the Onaruto Bridge, suspended 45 meters above the Naruto Strait. This thrilling path lets visitors walk above the sea and enjoy up-close views of the famous Naruto Whirlpools, which form when powerful tidal currents pass between the Seto Inland Sea and Kii Channel.

These whirlpools, some reaching up to 20 meters in diameter, are among the largest in the world and occur only during specific tide times. Naruto also ranks among the world’s top three fastest tidal currents, with speeds exceeding 20 km/h during seasonal spring tides — also known as king tides — which happen during full and new moons year-round.

Along the walkway, guests can also enjoy sweeping views of the Onaruto Bridge, sightseeing boats, and the surrounding beauty of Naruto Park, including spots like Eska Hill Naruto and the Otsuka Museum of Art.

Onaruto Bridge Eddy Memorial Hall

The Onaruto Bridge Eddy Memorial Hall is a spiral-shaped museum inspired by the whirlpools themselves. The museum lets visitors explore the mechanics of the Naruto Whirlpools and the engineering of the Onaruto Bridge through immersive videos, interactive simulations, and virtual experiences.

Key highlights include:

  • 4K 360° Theater "Awa" – Showcasing Tokushima’s natural beauty and cultural heritage, including scenes from the Awa Odori Festival
  • Play the Eddy! – Touch and sound-responsive LED projection where guests can interact with the whirlpool-themed art
  • The Amazing Onaruto Bridge! – Educational exhibits and replicas explaining how the massive Onaruto Bridge was built
  • Rooftop Observation Deck – A scenic viewing point where, on clear days, you may spot as far as Wakayama and Shōdoshima
  • Guided by mascot Larus, visitors learn when and how whirlpools form through engaging multimedia exhibits
