Product Info

Originally the former residence of the Koo family, one of the five major families in Taiwan, the building features a Taisho-era Western-style architectural blend. Completed in 1919 after six years of construction, it was the first Western-style mansion in the area. Its fusion of various Western classical architectural styles makes it a classic in Taiwanese architectural history, known locally as the 'Yamato Mansion.' It is also a highly significant and representative historical private residence in Taiwan.

In 1973, upholding the spirit of 'giving back to society what is taken from society,' the Koo family established the Lukang Folk Arts Museum Foundation, transforming their ancestral home into a cultural museum that preserves the memories of Taiwanese life. The museum houses over 6,000 precious artifacts, covering food, clothing, housing, transportation, religious customs, and festival culture from the Qing Dynasty to the early Republic of China era. From wedding ceremonial items and daily furniture to religious rituals, every piece tells the story of Taiwan's social landscape and aesthetics over the past century.

The classical Western-style building of 鹿港民俗文物館 stands beyond trimmed shrubs, with its entrance reached by broad front steps.
