The aurora activity, specially arranged in this itinerary, will last approximately 2-3 hours.
The aurora viewing season in Russia is from October to April of the following year. The appearance of the aurora is affected by many factors, and the timing cannot be accurately predicted in advance. Therefore, it may be impossible to see the aurora or the view may be unsatisfactory. We ask for your understanding, and complaints and refunds based on this reason will not be accepted.
**Please note:** Cruises departing on December 20, 2025, will enter through St. Petersburg and exit through Moscow.
Outfit suggestions: A thick, windproof down jacket, waterproof and snow-resistant ski boots, wool socks with foot warmers, a fleece hat, a scarf, and touch gloves (essential for photography); wear a close-fitting quick-drying shirt underneath, a fleece mid-layer, and a windproof outer layer to prevent heat loss from sweating. Aurora viewing tips: Carry a power bank (batteries drain easily in low temperatures), high-energy snacks (chocolate/nuts), and hand warmers to prevent your phone from shutting down. Shooting preparation: Camera with a tripod! Use professional mode on your phone, carry multiple batteries for the lens (keep them warm in a close-fitting pocket), and wipe with a fogging cloth frequently.
Important note: Chasing the stars is highly dependent on luck, so keep a calm mind! Even if you don't see them, experiencing the starry sky over the Arctic Circle snowfields and visiting the Sami village reindeer are unique memories.

Murmansk is renowned as the world's northernmost ice-free port, primarily due to the warm North Atlantic Current. Located deep within the Arctic Circle, it is a prime destination for witnessing the spectacular Northern Lights, especially during winter. The city also experiences the unique phenomenon of polar night, adding to its distinct Arctic charm.
Yes, Murmansk is situated deep within the Arctic Circle. This geographical location is why it experiences extreme seasonal light conditions, including the enchanting polar night during winter and the midnight sun during summer months, alongside its unique cold climate.
The best time to visit Murmansk for Northern Lights viewing is typically during the dark winter months, from late September to mid-April. During this period, the extended hours of darkness and clear Arctic skies significantly increase the chances of witnessing the spectacular aurora borealis.
In Murmansk, the polar night typically lasts for about 40 days each year, usually from early December to mid-January. During this period, the sun does not rise above the horizon, creating extended twilight hours that enhance the unique Arctic atmosphere and offer prime conditions for aurora hunting.
The primary language spoken by locals in Murmansk, like the rest of Russia, is Russian. While major tourist areas might have some English speakers, especially among younger generations or in hotels, learning a few basic Russian phrases can greatly enhance the travel experience.
Murmansk's port remains ice-free year-round despite its Arctic location because of the influence of the warm North Atlantic Current, an extension of the Gulf Stream. This warm ocean current prevents the waters of the Kola Bay from freezing, making it a unique and strategically important port.
Travelers to Murmansk can enjoy unique Arctic experiences such as chasing the spectacular Northern Lights, especially during the polar night season. Other exclusive polar activities include exhilarating snowmobiling adventures across snowy landscapes and traditional reindeer sledding, offering a true taste of Arctic life.
This Russia tour is organized with efficient travel logistics, beginning with convenient assembly at Shenzhen Port for travelers. The journey to Murmansk involves a comfortable four-segment flight, strategically planned to avoid long land travels and optimize time, ensuring a smooth and pleasant start to your Arctic adventure.
