— What You Can Expect —
Set off on a two-day journey of discovery in Tasmania! Start day one with a visit to Ashgrove cheese farm in the north. Sample a wide selection of handmade cheeses and ice cream. Get to know more about the farm and cheesemaking culture of Tasmania.
Then, it's off to Cradle Mountain National Park, one of the must-see destinations in the Central Highlands. Make the trek to Dove Lake, carved by glaciers, and be rewarded with truly epic views of the mountain. Keep your eyes peeled for wombats, which often come out in groups. On the way to Grindelwald Swiss Village, stop by Sheffield and snap some photos with its iconic murals.
Start the second day of the tour with a visit to the Tamar Island Wetlands in the winter, or Bridestowe Estate Lavender Farm in the summer season. In the wetlands, you'll get the chance to take in the reeds swaying in the cool breeze, and spot dozens of rare waterbirds who call the environment home. Meanwhile, Bridestowe is the biggest lavender farm in the Southern Hemisphere, and here you'll see hundreds of thousands of lavenders in bloom.
The next stop is Cataract Gorge in Launceston, where you'll see magnificent vistas and vibrant flora and fauna. Learn more about Australia's industrial history—Launceston was the first city in the Southern Hemisphere lit by electricity, generated by the turbine-driven power station at Duck Reach. Don't miss out on the chance to go on the world's longest chairlift! With a central span of 308 meters, passengers can take this incredibly scenic route to see more of the rock gorge's natural beauty from above.
In the afternoon, visit the historic town of Ross. Step back in time as you walk past its heritage-listed buildings from the 19th century. Gain insight into Australia's colonial past at the Ross Bridge, an intricate sandstone structure built by convict labor in 1836. Drop by the Tasmanian Wool Centre museum to learn more about the wool industry, then pass by the old bakery to grab a snack. Fans of Hayao Miyazaki's work will recognize its likeness in the popular animated film "Kiki's Delivery Service."
Then, it's back to Hobart city. The tour's last stop is Frogmore Creek Winery, one of the most awarded cellar doors in the region. Because of Tasmania's location and climate, it's home to more than a hundred vineyards and wineries, big and small. Try out Frogmore Creek's offerings in a wine tasting session, and end the two-day tour with a toast.
