Zentsuji City in Kagawa Prefecture is the birthplace of Kobo Daishi Kukai, a legendary figure in Japanese Buddhism known to every Japanese person. Born 1,250 years ago, Kukai practiced and attained enlightenment amidst the magnificent nature of his home island, Shikoku. Even more than 1,200 years after his time, many pilgrims who admire Kukai visit from all over the world to follow the pilgrimage path he left behind.
At five temples in Zentsuji City associated with Kukai, we offer experiential content designed to help you face yourself and sharpen your five senses: Mandara-ji for touch, Shushaka-ji for sight, Koyasan-ji for hearing, Zentsuji for taste, and Konzoji for smell.
In the city center, where the culture of 'osettai' (hospitality) from local residents to pilgrims is deeply rooted, we offer experiences such as enjoying local traditional crafts and regional cuisine.
