- Introduction to attractions -

  • Suwon Hwaseong:
King Jeongjo, the 22nd generation monarch of the Joseon Dynasty in South Korea, moved the mausoleum of his father, Crown Prince Sima, from Baebongsan Mountain in Yangju City to Hwasan Mountain, Suwon, the largest geomantic treasure land in Korea at that time, and also moved the town near Hwasan Mountain to today's Suwon. At the foot of Paldal Mountain, Suwon Hwaseong Fortress was built. Suwon Hwaseong Fortress is not only a testimony of Jeongjo's filial piety, but also a city built at the center of his political vision in order to eradicate partisan politics and realize a strong king's rule in the chaotic situation of partisanship. Suwon Hwaseong Fortress represented Jeongjo's political ambition; at the same time, Suwon Hwaseong Fortress was built to better utilize the border fortress located south of the capital.
  • Hwaseong Palace:
Hwaseong Palace was the place where King Jeongjo temporarily stayed when he visited Hyeonryongwon Garden. It is larger in scale than other palaces and is more frequently used, so some people even call it the "auxiliary palace" of Gyeongbokgung Palace. King Jeongjo built Hwaseong in the 18th to 20th years of his reign and built a palace on the east side of Paldal Mountain. It was used as a stay-at-home palace (now the city government) during normal times. It has also become the TV series "The Moon Embracing the Sun", "Rooftop Prince", "A Tree with Deep Roots", "The Princess's Man", "Lee Zho", "Concubine Insu", "Queen Inhyun's Man", The filming location of "The King and I".
