Travel time may vary depending on road conditions. In addition, due to unexpected traffic congestion or crowded tourist spots, we may be forced to omit some sightseeing spots, shorten the sightseeing time, or delay arrival at accommodation or move up departure times.
Depending on weather conditions and growing conditions, you may not be able to see the frost-covered trees or snow scenery. In a normal year, frost-covered trees form in December (initial stage/frost formation), January (growing period/frost formation), and February (peak period). The growth rate varies depending on weather conditions, but if the winter is warm, you may not be able to see them.
To get to Ginzan Onsen town, you will need to change to a shuttle bus just before the hot spring town.
Depending on the ropeway reservation time, departure from the hotel on the second day may be around 7:30.
Waiting times for the Ginzan Onsen and Zao Ropeway are usually 60 to 120 minutes. We have set aside time to accommodate this wait, but you may have to wait a long time to board the ropeway.
The ropeway may be suspended or the riding section may be changed due to weather conditions, etc. In the event of suspension, we will refund the purchase price depending on the situation, but this does not apply if the cost is covered by alternative measures, etc.
The itinerary may be changed due to facility closures, etc.
Please note that for departures on December 30th, 31st, and January 1st, the second day of the trip will be omitted due to Toko Sake Brewery being closed.
The child (elementary school student) fare is 3,000 yen off the adult fare. The travel fare for children aged 3 to 6 (preschool children) is a flat rate of 10,000 yen. Due to the Travel Agency Act and safety management, bus seats will be provided for the duration of the trip, and an additional fee will be charged (taxis and free hotel shuttle buses do not have seats). However, please note that train seats, meals, and bedding at accommodations will not be provided during the trip.
Please bring along non-slip shoes, gloves, hats and other warm clothing to protect you from snowfall and accumulation.
To witness the magnificent Zao Frost Monsters (Juhyo), you should take the Zao Ropeway (Zao Sanroku Station to Juhyo Kogen Station, then transfer to the Jizo-sancho Station). This round-trip journey provides breathtaking panoramic views of the silvery white snow landscape and the unique frost-covered trees that form the 'snow monsters'.
The Zao Ropeway journey involves two sections. The first section from Zao Sanroku Station to Juhyo Kogen Station takes approximately 7 minutes. After transferring, the second section from Juhyo Kogen Station to Jizo-sancho Station takes another 10 minutes. The total one-way ride is around 17 minutes, offering ample time to admire the developing frost monsters and the snowy scenery.
Absolutely, visiting the Zao Frost Monsters via ropeway is a highly recommended and unique winter experience. These natural ice formations, known as 'Juhyo,' create a surreal, mystical landscape that can only be seen in specific regions during winter. The views from the ropeway and observation deck at the summit are truly unforgettable.
Yes, guided tours are an excellent way to experience the Zao Frost Monsters and other regional highlights without the hassle of planning. These tours often include round-trip transportation from major cities like Tokyo, visits to sites such as Ginzan Onsen, Kumano Taisha Shrine, and Toko Sake Brewery, providing a comprehensive and enriching itinerary.
Ginzan Onsen is incredibly worthwhile, especially in winter. It's renowned for its nostalgic, retro atmosphere with gas lamps lighting up traditional wooden ryokans along the Ginzan River. The picturesque snowy scenery, combined with the warmth of the hot springs and the charm of the Taisho-era architecture, offers a uniquely beautiful and tranquil Japanese experience.
To fully soak in the atmosphere and explore Ginzan Onsen, a recommended duration is about 1.5 to 2 hours. This allows time to stroll along the river, enjoy the foot baths, take photos of the iconic scenery, browse the small shops, and savor the historic ambiance of the retro hot spring town at a relaxed pace.
Traveling to Ginzan Onsen from Tokyo typically involves a Shinkansen (bullet train) to Oishida Station, followed by a local bus or pre-arranged shuttle to Ginzan Onsen. For a seamless and convenient journey, considering a multi-day tour departing from Tokyo that includes transportation and accommodation is highly recommended.
The best time to book a trip to Ginzan Onsen, particularly for the popular winter season when snow enhances its charm, is several months in advance. Popular dates and accommodations fill up quickly. Booking through KKday offers the advantage of streamlined planning and often includes convenient round-trip transportation, ensuring a hassle-free journey to this picturesque destination.
