FAQ

1. Is a Blue Cave and islands tour from Split a worthwhile experience?

A Blue Cave and islands tour from Split offers a truly memorable experience. The Blue Cave's captivating blue light phenomenon, created by sunlight entering through an underwater opening, is a natural wonder. Beyond the cave, the tour typically explores stunning Adriatic islands, providing opportunities for swimming in clear waters and enjoying picturesque coastal views from a luxurious boat. It's an excellent way to discover the region's natural beauty and relax.

2. How long does a Blue Cave and islands tour typically last?

A Blue Cave and islands tour from Split is typically a full-day excursion. Most tours depart in the morning, around 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM, and return to Split in the late afternoon or early evening, usually between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM. This allows ample time to visit the Blue Cave, explore multiple islands, and enjoy swimming stops.

3. What are the common reasons for the Blue Cave to be closed to visitors?

The Blue Cave's operational status is highly dependent on weather conditions, primarily wind and sea swell. For safety reasons, the cave may close to visitors if the waves are too high or the sea is too rough, making entry difficult or dangerous for smaller boats. Tour operators prioritize visitor safety, and closures can happen suddenly, often on the morning of the tour, due to unforeseen weather changes.

4. Which city, Split or Dubrovnik, is a better starting point for a Blue Cave tour?

Split is a considerably better starting point for a Blue Cave tour. The Blue Cave is located on Biševo Island, which is much closer to Split, allowing for direct and shorter boat transfers. Starting from Dubrovnik would involve a significantly longer journey, typically requiring a ferry or bus to Split or another nearby island first, making Split the more convenient and efficient choice for this specific tour.

5. What are the best strategies to avoid crowds when visiting the Blue Cave?

To best avoid crowds at the Blue Cave, consider booking an early morning tour, as the first entries often experience fewer visitors. Visiting during the shoulder seasons, such as May or late September/early October, can also help, as these months typically have pleasant weather but less tourist traffic than peak summer. Weekday visits are generally less crowded than weekends.

6. What is the typical duration of the boat ride from Split to the Blue Cave?

The boat ride from Split to the Blue Cave, located on Biševo Island, typically takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the type of boat and prevailing sea conditions. High-speed luxury boats can often make the journey closer to the shorter end of that range. This duration is for the direct leg to the cave before exploring other islands on the tour.

7. What islands and caves are visited during a Blue Cave and islands tour from Split?

A Blue Cave and islands tour from Split typically includes visits to several stunning locations. Besides the famous Blue Cave on Biševo Island, the itinerary often features Stiniva Cove on Vis Island, known for its unique entrance, and a panoramic view of the Green Cave. Tours usually also stop at the Pakleni Islands for swimming and sunbathing, and offer time to explore Hvar Town on Hvar Island.

8. What can visitors expect regarding amenities on a luxury boat for a Blue Cave tour?

Visitors on a luxury boat for a Blue Cave and islands tour can expect enhanced comfort and facilities. These boats typically offer spacious and comfortable seating, often with both sun-exposed areas and shaded sections. You can usually find onboard restrooms, safety equipment, and sometimes complimentary refreshments or Wi-Fi, providing a more relaxing and enjoyable journey compared to standard vessels.
