  • |Special Exhibition| When Flowers Bloom: A Showcase of Contemporary Japanese Art From Smoke to Blossoms: The Land of Art's Rebirth The opening special exhibition "When Flowers Bloom" uses the metaphor of flowers as a starting point, featuring a selection of classic contemporary Japanese works. It brings together diverse creations from postwar Japanese art pioneers and contemporary talents, presenting the spiritual landscape of Japanese art from the postwar period to the contemporary era. From the various states of flowers, it extends to the development of contemporary Japanese art. Between destruction and rebirth, art, like wildflowers, tenaciously sprouts from the ashes, blooming with the diverse postures of humanity.
Sixteen Japanese artists, spanning calligraphy, painting, photography, sculpture, installation, and popular visual arts, utilize diverse media and creative techniques to break through traditional and national frameworks. Through their unique artistic vocabulary, they foster the emergence and development of avant-garde art, much like flowers in different seasons—some intense and fiery, others serene and restrained; some magnificent and splendid, others profound and dreamlike. Through these works, we can glimpse the flow of Japanese art from inner spirituality to sensual desire, from personal solitude to collective memory, and its resonance with the nature, emotions, and time of the South.
"When Flowers Bloom" presents the spirit of Japanese art from the postwar period to the contemporary era. The infinite possibilities of life will bloom in this creative garden, inspiring viewers to have a new perspective on art.

The exhibition, titled "Dachong Kan'an," uses the Kuroshio Current to create waves that sweep across the coastline, offering a powerful visual and auditory experience. It carries a strong sense of local geography and a grander, more international perspective. The name "Dachong Kan'an" signifies the powerful waves that crash against the shore, and Pingtung's artistic vision is imbued with a dynamic and ever-changing spirit within this surging imagery. The exhibition explores the geographical characteristics of waves, leading to five sub-themes: People from the Mountains and Sea, The Confluence of Wind and Current, Southern Vanguard, The Aura of the New Era, and Future Art Forms.
The exhibition features over 100 items from the Pingtung County Government Cultural Affairs Bureau's extensive collection, which has been cultivated over many years. It also includes items on loan from the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Kaohsiung Fine Arts Museum, Art Bank, Hung Yeh Art Foundation, Han Sheng Magazine, artists and their families. In addition, three artists, Liu Chiu-er, Wu Cheng-chang, and An Sheng-hui, were invited to create works specifically for the exhibition, echoing the unique cultural atmosphere of Pingtung and further strengthening the connection between local customs and the spirit of the exhibition.

From personal collections of figurines, models, and toys to precious artworks and artifacts in museums, "collecting" is not only about the objects themselves, but also about how people imbue them with meaning. • Pingtung Tobacco Museum | Tobacco Factory—Golden Memories of Re-smoking: The technical details of the agricultural and industrial sectors can be seen as the foundational driving force for cultural accumulation and the advancement of civilization. Pingtung's tobacco factories are not only unique industrial and cultural assets of Pingtung, but also an important chapter in human civilization.
Tobacco plants, growing on the uniquely fertile soil of Pingtung, transform from emerald green to golden yellow. From sowing and harvesting to processing, the entire process embodies the local terroir, the wisdom of elders, and the hard work of countless laborers. Focusing on the tobacco leaves, they are meticulously processed by various machines: wetting, tip trimming, deboning, re-smoking, packaging, and all other complex processes, showcasing and witnessing the essence of this unique industry and culture in Taiwan.
Arriving at the tobacco factory, the massive factory buildings, constructed gradually from 1936 onwards, are the essential place that gave birth to all of this. Craftsmen with different roles moved between the machinery and the tobacco leaves; their exquisite skills must be recorded in the memory of civilization.
Today, the Pingtung Tobacco Factory is open to the public with its permanent exhibition "Tobacco, Leaf, Factory - Golden Memories of Re-smoking," inviting everyone to explore the preserved machinery workshops on-site, understand the processing flow of tobacco production, and see the professional dedication hidden behind tobacco cultivation. Whether it is the flavor of the land or the participation of craftsmen, they have shaped the cultural value of tobacco and the tobacco factory. Immerse yourself in this unique space and time and personally experience this industry and labor memory that transforms from green to golden.
  • Pingtung Hakka Museum | Liudui Imprint "Liudui," a term that has never officially appeared on a map, is a description of a specific geographical area and an embodiment of a unique cultural spirit. It is both concrete and abstract; both classical and contemporary; both valiant and united, and both gentle and refined. "Liudui" is not only a collective name for the Hakka people in the Kaohsiung-Pingtung area, but also represents the moving life stories of this land over the past hundreds of years.
During the land reclamation period, Hakka immigrants came to the fertile Pingtung Plain, where they dug ditches and canals along the streams, diligently reclaiming wasteland, establishing villages, and writing a new chapter with the land. The sweat of their ancestors cultivated abundant crops, nourishing each generation and forming prosperous and united settlements. On this land, the Hakka people have inherited a traditional life rich in reverence for heaven and earth, gratitude, and cherishing blessings. The spirit of loyalty, filial piety, integrity, and the virtues of diligent farming and scholarly pursuits have been passed down through generations.
"Liudui Imprint" recreates the development of the Liudui people through their life journeys, showcasing the most unique material and spiritual elements of the culture in an artistic way. We invite you to come to Liudui and connect with the people of Liudui.
  • Pingtung Indigenous Peoples Museum | Kacalisian People on the Slope
Since ancient times, the Paiwan and Rukai people in southern Taiwan have called themselves "kacalisian," which means that from the time of creation myths, their origin, residence, farming, and hunting grounds have truly existed on the "sloping land" for generations. They regard Dawu Mountain, Damu Mountain, Wutou Mountain and other sacred mountains in southern Taiwan as sacred mountains, and perpetually pass on their humanistic arts and lifeblood on the sloping land.
The exquisite craftsmanship and ancient musical melodies displayed by the indigenous people living on the slopes of Pingtung are closely related to the philosophy and thinking of the ancient language, Kacalisian. In the mountains and forests of the slopes, the "hands" and "hearts" of the people intertwine to form a unique and refined aesthetic of life. To this day, this special cultural and artistic background and way of thinking has created a new generation of artists, musicians, and cultural and creative workers in Paiwan and Rukai.
The arts and culture of the Xiepo people permeate every aspect of life, representing "the natural beauty expressed by the soul." Whether it's clothing colors, carving techniques, decorative arts, traditional music and dance, or contemporary art expressions, the Xiepo people have always used artistic thinking to tell stories. The mountains, forests, land, and people of the tribe intertwine to form a unique and exquisite arts and culture, which is reflected in daily life.
