- Spot Introduction -

  • Tamawakasu-mikoto Shrine
This shrine's main hall that was built in the style called Oki-zukuri, Zuishinmon gate, and former hall of worship have all been designated as Important Cultural Properties of Japan. On June 5th each year, one of the three major festivals of Dogo Island called Gorei-furyu is held here.
  • Yao-sugi Japanese Cedar
One of the three great cedars in Dogo Island, this giant tree is designated as a natural monument of Japan. There is a legend that it was planted by the Buddhist priestess Yao-bikuni of Wakasa Province, and this 30m-tall tree is said to be 2,000 years old.
  • Mizuwakasu Shrine
Recorded in Engishiki as a Myojin Taisha, this shrine is the Ichinomiya (highest ranked shrine) of the former Oki Province. Its main shrine hall is constructed in the Oki-zukuri style and is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan.
It is also known as the setting and location of the movie "KON-SHIN".
  • Ise-mikoto Shrine
This is one of the four grand shrines in the Oki Islands that was listed in the Engishiki as a Myojin Taisha in the Heian period.
  • Shirashima Coast Lookout
This lookout commands a panoramic view of Shirashima Coast, the northernmost coast of the Oki Islands. The coastline, which is intricate due to long-term weathering and marine erosion, is a beautiful place with the white of the coast and the blue of the sea .
  • Kabura-sugi Japanese Cedar
This is a giant cedar tree that is divided into six trunks from around the roots, and is about 38.5m high and said to be about 600 years old.
  • Jodogaura Coast
The coastline that stretches to the east of Dogo Island is characterized by the contrast between the magnificent rocky reefs and the clear sea that produces a unique ambience. It is also known as an interesting place because northern and southern plants propagate in the same place.
  • Oyama Shrine
The giant cedar tree that majestically stretches to reach the sky is said to be 800 years old. It is enshrined as the sacred tree of Oyama Shrine, which still conveys the worship of giant trees.
  • Lizard Rock
The 26m-long Lizard Rock was formed on the slope of the mountain due to erosion by wind and rain. It is said to be one of only a few oddly shaped rocks in the world.
