Firstly, after touching down at Kota Kinabalu International Airport, head down to City Mosque. Also known as the Floating Mosque, this iconic Islamic building comprises a large prayer hall with three madrasahs. In total, it can accommodate up to 12,000 worshippers at any given time. However, tourists need to register with the Kota Kinabalu City Mosque Tourism Management before entering the mosque.

Following that, head to Tun Mustapha, a 30-storey glass tower with a revolving floor on the 18th floor. Although it takes one hour to rotate 360°, you’ll have a birds-eye view of the Likas Harbour.

Next, shop local at Handicraft Market, open daily from 8am to 10pm. There’s lots of treasure to be found here, like handcrafted blowpipes, bags and accessories fashioned from coconuts. Bargaining is welcome here, so don’t be afraid to haggle!

Of course, other than sightseeing, you can opt for a thrilling water-sports activity. Take the train and alight at Pangi for white water rafting. During the 1.5 hour train journey, you’ll be treated to scenic sights of greenery, nearby villages and waterways.

Otherwise, take up this River Water Rafting Day Trip that provides two-way transport from your hotel in Kota Kinabalu, a lunch buffet and rafting equipment rental.
