You Can Now Travel Between GCQ and MGCQ Areas

Daydreaming of taking a long drive this weekend for a healing escape in Tagaytay or, maybe, to experience a fun-filled day in Enchanted Kingdom, but quarantine measures are stopping you? Well, here’s some good news for you.

The Philippine government announced on Friday the easing of non-essential travel restrictions between areas under different community quarantine classifications.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said Filipinos can now travel freely between areas placed under general community quarantine (GCQ) and modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) for any purpose starting 16 October.

This new rule will be followed provided that the areas an individual is traveling to are not under strict lockdown. The Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) is also reserving the freedom to impose travel requirements on visitors to local government units.

Prior to this announcement, the government put stringent travel restrictions in place, limiting travel only to those running errands for a household or those who work in a different city or province. They were issued travel certificates and quarantine passes to access roads and establishments.
