Taiwan is known for its urban landscape and good food, but beyond all these are natural wonders that make the country a must-visit. It may not be well known for being a beach destination unlike its neighbors, but it has popular and secluded beaches that surround the island.
If you are looking for something different on your next trip to Taiwan, or prefer to have some sun, sea, and sand during your visit, here are seven beautiful beaches that you can check out:
Fulong Beach
Just a short train ride away from the city center of Taipei, Fulong Beach is popular among the younger generation. This long stretch of golden sand is one of the most popular beaches in Taiwan. Some sections remain privately owned, but can be accessed for a fee so you can use its facilities.
Visitors flock here all year round, but it really comes alive in April during the Sand Sculpture Festival. Artists from all over build massive and intricately carved sand sculptures here, providing the perfect backdrop for your Instagram posts.
Kenting Beach
If you’re bound for the southern part of Taiwan, then make sure to drop by Kenting Beach in Kenting National Park. You can do a lot of outdoor activities here, such as snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing, and other water sports. Beyond the waters, you can rent a scooter or e-bike, try horseback riding, or engage in canyoneering and rappelling.
Laomei Beach
Laomei Beach is a delight for photographers just as much as it is for beach lovers. The stunning troughs and trenches that were naturally carved from a volcanic rock give the coastline an eerie yet unique feel, making it the perfect destination for photography enthusiasts. If you’re visiting between April and May, the area is covered with green algae, making it more striking and Instagram worthy.
Jinshan Beach
If you’re into surfing, then a visit to Jinshan Beach should be on your to-do list in Taiwan. Even if it is less than an hour from Taipei, this beach destination isn’t crowded, so you can just grab your board and paddle away. It may not be as pretty as the other beaches on the west or east coast of Taiwan, but it can be considered as a surfer’s paradise.
Feicuiwan Beach
Like most beaches in Taiwan, Feicuiwan is a popular destination, thus it is kept clean and well maintained. It is also known as Wanli or Green Bay Beach, and is a favorite area for water activities such as surfing, jet skiing, and scuba diving. Paragliding and hang gliding are also offered here for sweeping views of the entire beach, activities that are not readily available on other beaches.
Chihsingtan Beach
Considered a stony beach, Chihsingtan is more favorable for those who are into landscape photography. It is surrounded by mountains, and you can go around the area thanks to established walking and cycling paths. Just remember that swimming is not encouraged here because of the strong currents.
Jici Beach
If you’re heading somewhere in Hualien and Taitung, then don’t miss Jici Beach. This stretch of white sand and calm waters is ideal for sunbathing and swimming, but if you visit during the winter season, you’re in for a treat. You’ll see a strip of black sand that you won’t see on other Taiwan beaches. There’s also a camping ground if you want to spend more time on the beach. It is a bit remote, more than an hour by bus from Hualien, so it’s perfect if you’re looking for some peace and quiet.
