Learn About The Park’s Fascinating History

The park may now be a playground for artists, but it was originally a wine factory for sake and ginseng in 1914. Over the years that followed, the factory went through a number of owners and numbers until it was abandoned for another site in 1987.

A decade later, artists found their way to the empty grounds and called for it to be established into an art center. Eventually, the Huashan 1914 Creative Park officially became a reality to provide a space for artistic expression and appreciation in Taipei.

Beyond the Huashan 1914 Creative Park, there are more historical, cultural, and artsy places in Taiwan—if you know where to look.

Drop by the Museum of Contemporary Art, a small gallery in Taipei with an amazing collection of modern pieces, while the Tainan Chimei Museum in Tainan provides a peek at amazing Western paintings and sculptures.

Songshan Cultural and Creative Park is another sprawling artsy place in Taipei that’s similar to Huashan 1914—but somehow even bigger! Inside the park, you’ll also find the Taiwan Design Museum.

Meanwhile, those who are looking for something other than art can visit the National Taiwan Museum in Taipei, which is the oldest museum in the country with its establishment in 1908. The grand Grecian architecture is a sight to behold and once you step inside, you’ll find exhibits on the country’s natural history and indigenous roots.

There’s also the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts in Taichung with everything from traditional to contemporary to digital art. You can also bring your children to the Taiwan Balloons Museum for a fun day out surrounded by balloons!
