PH Aviation Regulators Revise List Of Prohibited Items In Carry-On, Check-In Baggage

If you are traveling by air anytime soon—whether it’s for a long weekend trip to go island hopping in Palawan or for a quick food tour in Taiwan—read up because the Office for Transportation Security (OTS) has released an updated list of prohibited items in carry-on and check-in baggage.

In compliance with the international standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization, the OTS expanded the coverage of prohibited items to include chemicals and other toxic substances that travelers can and cannot bring or carry to the airport and aircraft.

They also covered items that are subject to special requirements or instructions from the airlines, as well as an exhaustive list of items considered as liquid, aerosols, and gels (LAGS).

The revised list includes the following items among many others:
-Insect repellent
-Vinegar
-Paint
-E-lighters
-Disguised/improvised firearms
-Batteries
-E-cigarettes

When it comes to carrying other liquid items, the OTS maintains their 100-ml rule. However, these substances would now be subject to special instruction from airlines.

The heightened policy on LAGS can be traced back to the foiled terrorist plot in 2006 to smuggle liquid explosives through an aircraft from the United Kingdom bound for the United States and Canada.
