10 Artists We Can’t Wait To See At 2019 Summer Sonic Osaka

Summer Sonic 2019 is shaping up to be one of Japan’s most epic music festivals this year as it celebrates its 20th anniversary. To be held from August 16 to 18 at the Maishima Sonic Park, the much-hyped rock fest features a stellar lineup of international bands and artists from across various genres—just the perfect bye-for-now treat, before they take a break next year to make way for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics

We don’t know about you, but here are the acts we can’t wait to see at this year’s Summer Sonic:

B’z

August 18

For the first time in Summer Sonic’s history, a Japanese band is headlining the festival, and it’s none other than the legendary duo B’z! Among the best-selling bands in the world, they are the first music act from Asia to have their handprints and signatures featured in Hollywood’s RockWalk.

Fall Out Boy

August 18

American punk-rock band Fall Out Boy cemented their rockstar status in Japan after a successful concert at the Nippon Budokan last year. This 2019, they are making their Summer Sonic comeback after playing a set at the festival back in 2013.

The Chainsmokers

August 17

This Grammy Award-winning duo recently staged successful tour stops in Tokyo and Osaka back in June. They’ll continue their journey in these cities as they perform at Summer Sonic for the second time.

ZEDD

August 17

Russian-German DJ-producer ZEDD rose to international stardom with the release of his 2012 studio album “Clarity.” In 2016, he performed in front of 30,000 people during his two-night concert in Japan.

The 1975

August 18

Hailing from Manchester, England, alternative-rock band The 1975 broke into the music scene with their hit single “Chocolate” in 2013. They made their first Summer Sonic appearance in 2014, and returned in 2016. Their regular guesting at Summer Sonic just proves how popular they are in Japan.

Loudness

August 18

There is no more fitting name for this Japanese heavy metal band. Their loud and unique sound skyrocketed them to fame locally, eventually cracking into the international music arena. They are renowned as the first Japanese metal act to be signed under a major U.S. label.

Two Door Cinema Club

August 18

Indie music lovers, rejoice! Northern Irish band Two Door Cinema Club is returning to Summer Sonic for the fifth time! Fingers crossed, they’ll perform songs from their latest album “False Alarm.”

SEVENTEEN

August 17

Following their successful debut in Japan last year, this 13-member K-Pop boy group will be setting the Summer Sonic stage on fire with their breathtaking choreography and powerful vocals. SEVENTEEN is among South Korea’s most popular acts today and is best known for their self-producing abilities.

Snow Patrol (acoustic)

August 18

Enjoy acoustic renditions of your favorite Snow Patrol hits on the last day of the music fest in Osaka. Well-loved in Japan, the five-piece rock band from Glasgow, Scotland is also set to hold a concert at Shibuya Club Quattro a day after their Summer Sonic stint.

Rita Ora

August 18

Singer-songwriter Rita Ora will take the Summer Sonic stage for the first time this 2019. The English beauty will surely electrify audiences with her strong vocals and stage presence. She released her latest single “New Look” on July 15.
