Product Info

“Don’t just visit the Arctic—learn how to live in it.

Step beyond ordinary nature tours and enter the real Arctic wilderness—where survival, knowledge, and nature are deeply connected.

This premium small-group experience by Uncle’s Fish combines light Arctic survival skills with wild berry and mushroom foraging, guided by a true local outdoorsman near Rovaniemi.

Your journey begins with pickup from your accommodation within 10 km of Rovaniemi city center. From there, you travel approximately one hour into remote Lapland—far from marked trails and tourist routes—into areas known only by locals.

This is not just a walk in the forest. It is a hands-on introduction to how people in the north have traditionally lived from nature.

Together with your guide, you will explore key wilderness skills adapted to the season:

• How to identify safe and edible berries and mushrooms
• Where to find food in Arctic forests
• Basic navigation and movement in untouched terrain
• Fire-making techniques in natural conditions
• Understanding the rhythm of Lapland’s seasons

Depending on the time of year, you will forage directly from nature:

• Early summer: wild mushrooms
• Mid July to mid August: cloudberries (Lapland’s gold)
• August to September: blueberries
• September to October: lingonberries and cranberries

A defining part of the experience is learning how to transform what you find into food.

Together, you will gather around an open fire and prepare a simple but authentic wilderness meal. Your guide will demonstrate how locals use natural ingredients—whether frying fresh mushrooms, warming berries, or combining them into traditional-style outdoor dishes.

Enjoy your meal in complete silence, surrounded by pure forest, breathing the clean Arctic air.

Throughout the experience, your guide shares personal stories of life in Lapland—how people have relied on nature for generations, and how these skills are still part of everyday life today.

This experience is designed for travelers seeking something deeper than sightseeing: a connection to nature, practical knowledge, and a genuine sense of northern life.

With a maximum group size of 8 participants, the atmosphere remains personal, relaxed, and exclusive.
