Know Before You Go: The Lençóis Maranhenses have two clearly defined seasons. During the rainy season, usually from January to June, the lagoons gradually fill with rainwater. The dry season lasts from July to December, and the water levels gradually drop. How long the lagoons remain well filled depends on the rainfall of the year in question.
