Lahij is a living history, where local residents carefully keep the traditions and crafts of their ancestors to this day. The village, known since the times of the Great Silk Road as an old center for the production of copper dishes and minting, is still famous for its craftsmen. The road to Lahij, spread among the picturesque mountain slopes at an altitude of 1300 meters above sea level, will not leave anyone indifferent. This excursion begins with a visit to the Diri Baba mausoleum, which means a living old man. This is a two-story mausoleum-mosque, built in 1402 on a site carved into a steep rock. Then we will visit the oldest mosque in Azerbaijan and the second in the entire Caucasus - Juma mosque (VIII - IX centuries) in the city of Shemakha (the city of the motherland of the Shemakhan queen from the fairy tales of A.S. Pushkin). On the way to the village of Lahij, wonderful views of the surroundings await us. There will be vineyards on both sides along our path in the Shamakhi region. And the most picturesque mountain pass. On the way to Lahij we will stop and walk over a suspension bridge over a turbulent mountain river. Lahij itself is located 180 km north-west of Baku at an altitude of 1300 m above sea level. The first mention of Lahij dates back to the 7th century. Since ancient times, the village has been a craft center for the production of copper dishes and minting. Upon arrival in Lahij, at your choice, we will have lunch at one of the restaurants or visiting a local resident. Then we will walk around Lahij, visit the smelting furnaces and workshops that have survived to this day, an underground bath and an old mosque. In numerous shops and directly in workshops, you will be offered a huge assortment of local products for every taste, from small boxes to handmade samovars. On the way back, at the request of the guests, we can visit a winery, where we will have the opportunity to taste several types of Azerbaijani wines produced according to Italian technologies.
