Transnistria: Soviet Villages, Mosaics & Rural Life Tour｜Moldova

Leave the familiar streets of Tiraspol behind and travel through the villages and small towns of southern Transnistria. Discover a side of the region rarely seen by visitors, where Soviet mosaics, collective-farm monuments, monumental architecture, and traces of everyday rural life survive far from the usual tourist routes.

Begin in Sukleia, where unusual monuments and artworks reveal how Soviet ideology presented agriculture, sport, national identity, and technological progress. See the Three Moldavians monument, the monumental Big Bread relief, a statue of Lenin with a large head, mosaics on a sports school, and a Vostok rocket monument.

Continue through Karagash for a short stop at a colorful Soviet mosaic bus shelter before reaching Slobodzeya. Explore the town’s monumental central ensemble, including statues of collective farmers, arcaded architecture, mosaics, and its Soviet-era Palace of Culture.

The centerpiece of the tour is Chobruchi, once developed as a model collective-farm village. Walk through Rodina Park, see its sculptures and historic tractor, and discover monuments dedicated to farmers and space exploration. Visit the Palace of Culture and the former collective-farm administration, dominated by a statue of Lenin.

Travel farther south to Dnestrovsk, a Soviet energy town built near the Moldavian Power Plant. See the dramatic Prometheus statue and monumental mosaics decorating the Palace of Culture. Take a break here for lunch or a snack before continuing.

Finish in Nezavertailovca, where a bust of Karl Marx stands in front of the abandoned collective-farm administration. See a preserved tractor monument, the village Palace of Culture, and another reminder of the political world that shaped these communities.

Throughout the journey, hear local stories about collective farms, Soviet rural development, architecture, propaganda, and how life in these settlements has changed since the collapse of the USSR. After exploring the southern edge of Transnistria, return to Tiraspol.
