It features columnar joint cliffs formed by volcanic activity from Mount Aso, stretching along the Gokase River to create a unique canyon landscape. The most famous sight is the Manai Falls, which cascades down from the cliffs and is considered one of the most representative views of Takachiho Gorge. The official tourism association has also listed Manai Falls among the Top 100 Waterfalls in Japan.
