Product Info

Day 1: Hermanus, Stellenbosch, Betty's Bay
Travel route: about 150 km / 2,5 hours driving

Depart Cape Town or Stellenbosch early morning (6am - 7am) and trade the silhouette of Table Mountain for the lush scenery of the Overberg region ending the day in the charming seaside town of Hermanus, famous for its land-based whale-watching.

First, stop in Kayamandi for a warm Xhosa welcome. A local host will invite you into their home to enjoy traditional treats like Magwinya (a melt-in-your-mouth savoury bun), spicy chakalaka relish, and rooibos tea. Sit around the table, sharing stories and soaking up the vibrant community spirit.

Next, head to Stony Point Reserve in Betty’s Bay, home to a thriving colony of African penguins. Watch these adorable creatures waddle along the rocks, and be sure to spot the rock hyraxes sunbathing nearby.

Continue along the breathtaking Clarence Drive (if open subject to windy or harsh weather) to Hermanus, arriving in the late afternoon. Wander along the cliffside walkways at sunset and during whale season (June–November), focus on spotting southern right whales from shore.

Overnight stay in Hermanus as per selected package: Hermanus Backpackers, (3 star Comfort Stay) Windsor Hotel, or (4 star Luxury) Harbour House - Skyroom or similar.

Day 2: Travel route: about 150 km / 2,5 hours driving
Start your morning with an optional visit to the Panthera Africa Big Cat Sanctuary, where you’ll have the chance to see rescued wild cats like lion, leopards, tigers, and more. While listening to fascinating stories of how each one was saved, you’ll be introduced to the important conservation projects running that aim to ensure their survival. (Panthera is currently closed until October 2026 for refurbishment following the devastating wildfires. The entry fee is reduced from the tour price)

On the way back to Cape Town, choose your adventure:
Zipline Adventure in the Mountains: For thrill-seekers; zipline across the lush landscapes of the Elgin Valley (optional activity at extra cost). A 4x4 drive along a dirt track takes you to the mountaintop, where you’ll glide between 13 platforms on slides stretching up to 320m. Professional guides also will share fascinating facts and insights about the area’s nature and geology.
OR
If you'd like to keep your feet firm on Mother Earth, choose the free alternative: Visit to a Local Market with a Mountain Walk: Explore Elgin’s quirky Railway Market - set in a converted 1940s station filled with local crafts and food stalls, before enjoying a short hike near the scenic Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve.
End with an early evening drop-off at your Cape Town accommodation, scheduled to arrive back in Cape Town or Stellenbosch by early evening (between 5pm - 7pm). Subject to traffic and stops.
