Covering more than 47,000 hectares, this extraordinary area is the world’s richest source of hominin fossils, containing nearly 40% of all known human ancestor discoveries. The region is also home to diverse wildlife, bird species, and unique plant life.

Discover some of the most important archaeological finds ever made, including Mrs. Ples, the nearly complete skull discovered in 1947, and Little Foot, one of the most complete Australopithecus skeletons uncovered in 1997.

At the Maropeng Visitor Centre, explore interactive exhibitions that bring the story of human evolution to life.
