Product Info

The tour starts outside Schindler’s Factory on Lipowa Street. Although the group does not enter the museum, your guide explains how Oskar Schindler turned his enamelware factory into a refuge by employing Jewish workers and protecting them from deportation and death. This introduction provides essential historical context while also addressing how these events were later portrayed in film.
As you continue into Podgórze, you walk through the former ghetto district. On Tarnowskiego Street, you’ll see the filming location of the famous “girl in the red coat” scene — a pivotal cinematic moment that invites reflection on symbolism, Schindler’s transformation, and the role of film in shaping Holocaust memory. Crossing the Piłsudski Bridge — once a dividing line between confinement and relative freedom — your guide explains the forced relocations, smuggling networks, and the tragic separation of Jewish families between Kazimierz and the ghetto.

The tour continues in Kazimierz, the historic centre of Jewish life in Kraków. Beginning on Szeroka Street, surrounded by centuries-old synagogues, you learn about the thriving pre-war Jewish community and why Steven Spielberg selected this district to recreate ghetto scenes that no longer existed. Walking through preserved streets and courtyards, you discover how Kazimierz was emptied of its Jewish residents during the war — and later transformed into a cinematic symbol of loss and remembrance. At the intersection of Dajwór and Na Przejściu Streets, you see where the symbolic ghetto gate was constructed for the film.

On Cinema Street, your guide recounts the dramatic escape of Poldek Pfefferberg as depicted in the movie — a powerful story of fear, courage, and survival. The route then leads to Józefa Street 12, where scenes of deportation, hiding, and liquidation were filmed in authentic courtyards and passageways. The experience concludes on Szeroka Street in Kazimierz, among the historic synagogues. Here, your guide reflects on the pre-war Jewish community and explains once more why this district became the cinematic setting for Spielberg’s portrayal of the wartime ghetto.
