Product Info

  • Located in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto, this small counter overlooks the garden of a private temple. In this experience, you will extract the fragrances of seasonal flowers and plants, according to the 24 solar terms, drop by drop, using a small still. At your seat, you will choose your preferred fragrance, and as the still is lit, steam will rise gently. Eventually, the fragrance will appear as transparent droplets. You will spend this time surrounded by the atmosphere of the garden. A cup of matcha tea and seasonal sweets will accompany the experience, allowing you to savor the aroma, taste, and tranquility. Finally, you can take home the distilled fragrance as a "drop of fragrance." The same fragrance will never be created twice. Take home a memory of the garden and the air of that day, in a single drop.
  • Seated, private temple, with a view of the garden designed by the 7th generation Jihei Ogawa.
  • Kosei-in Temple, a Rinzai Zen Buddhist temple, stands near Ichino-funairi, the starting point of the Takase River in the heart of Kyoto. Originally built about 130 years ago, in 1892 (Meiji 25), on the site of the Choshu Domain's residence, it was a villa for Ijuin Kanetsune, a former Satsuma Domain samurai who was active during the Meiji period. Kanetsune, a tea master and cultural figure who pursued "Japanese beauty," poured his aesthetic sense into the garden, which beautifully blends nature with the flowing waters of the Takase River, and the sukiya-style residence that appears to float above it. After Kanetsune moved out, it was acquired by Mitsumasa Hirose, the eldest son of Saihei Hirose, the first general manager of the Sumitomo zaibatsu, and has since been a Rinzai Zen Buddhist temple. Until now, it has rarely been open to the public and has been a historical and cultural asset quietly preserved by the Hirose family. Despite being in the heart of Kyoto, stepping inside, you are enveloped in tranquility away from the hustle and bustle of the city, making it a designated scenic spot that few people have known about until now.
  • Limited to 6 seats. Choose from Japanese plants that represent the 24 solar terms and seasons, and spend a quiet time as the dew falls.
  • We will bring a bamboo basket containing several seasonal plants representing the 24 solar terms to your table, and you can choose your favorite. We will then bring a glass still containing your chosen plant to your table. We will light candles one by one in turn. This marks the beginning of a quiet time filled with the faint aroma of distillation. Enjoy the lingering fragrance and the gently falling droplets of distillation, and savor this extraordinary moment as time slowly passes. The fragrant drops distilled at your table will be blended into a bottle of Japanese-style drops that changes monthly, and you can take them home with you. You can also choose to experience the aroma of fragrant wood and other incense ingredients, and create your own original fragrant sachet as an option.
  • Enjoy Jinjiro Yamamoto's matcha tea and seasonal Japanese sweets.
  • Grown using traditional honzu (traditional Japanese cultivation methods) by a tea farming family in Uji, spanning six generations. Single tea plantation, single variety. Enjoy "Asahi," the ultimate tea leaf cultivated with over 700 years of history, along with seasonal sweets.
