A standard kimono, such as a Komon, is typically worn for casual outings and features repetitive patterns throughout the fabric. A furisode, in contrast, is a highly formal kimono distinguished by its long, flowing sleeves, often reaching the ankles, and intricate, vibrant designs. Furisode are traditionally worn for special celebrations and are considered a more elaborate and formal choice than a standard kimono. Ookini Kimono Asakusa offers both styles for rental.
To wear a kimono comfortably, especially when moving, it's best to take smaller steps and maintain an elegant, upright posture. When sitting, gently push the kimono fabric down under you as you lower yourself to prevent wrinkles and ensure the garment retains its shape. Sitting with your knees together also helps.
