The Pohang Space Walk is located within Hwanho Park. If you are joining a day tour from Busan, transportation to Hwanho Park will typically be provided as part of the itinerary. For independent travelers, you can take a bus or taxi from Pohang Intercity Bus Terminal or Pohang Station directly to Hwanho Park.
Traveling from Seoul to Pohang involves a journey. You can take a KTX train from Seoul Station to Pohang Station, which usually takes around 2.5 to 3 hours. From Pohang Station, you would then need to arrange local transportation, such as a bus or taxi, to reach Hwanho Park where the Space Walk is located. Many travelers opt for organized tours departing from major cities like Busan for convenience.
The Pohang Space Walk is often described as a 'walkable roller coaster' due to its unique design. It's an art installation resembling a roller coaster track, featuring curves, slopes, and a central spiral staircase. Visitors can walk along the steel structure, enjoying panoramic views of Pohang city, Yeongilman Bay, and the surrounding landscape from various heights and angles. It offers a blend of art, architecture, and an immersive walking experience.
The Pohang Space Walk features a significant number of steps, particularly along its spiral staircase and ascending paths. While the exact number can vary depending on the route taken, visitors should be prepared for a moderate physical challenge involving climbing stairs. The experience is designed to be engaging, offering different perspectives and views as you ascend, but good mobility and stamina are recommended to fully enjoy it.
The Guryongpo Japanese House Path in Pohang is characterized by its preserved traditional Japanese-style wooden houses. These buildings were constructed during the Japanese colonial period, reflecting the architectural styles of that era. Walking along the path offers a glimpse into the past, with many houses now serving as museums, cultural centers, or cafes, allowing visitors to experience the history and culture of the time. The unique streetscape provides a distinct atmosphere.
Cape Homi, located on the easternmost point of the Korean peninsula, is renowned for its spectacular sunrise views, particularly the iconic 'Hand of Coexistence' sculpture emerging from the sea. Visitors can expect vast, unobstructed ocean vistas and a serene coastal atmosphere. The cape also features a lighthouse and a commemorative park, making it a significant spot for both natural beauty and cultural symbolism, especially for witnessing the first sunrise of the new year.
The Pohang Space Walk can be enjoyed throughout the day, but certain times offer unique experiences. Sunset and evening visits are popular for stunning night views as the city lights up and the Space Walk itself is illuminated, creating a magical ambiance. During daylight hours, clear weather provides the best panoramic visibility of Pohang and the coastline. Weekends and holidays tend to be busier, so consider visiting on weekdays for a more relaxed experience.
