- Discover the Silver Round Trip: A Scenic Journey to Lucerne’s Legendary Mount Pilatus -

Experience the perfect blend of adventure and breathtaking views with the Silver Round Trip—an unforgettable excursion combining Lucerne’s local mountain with a panoramic journey by cable car, cogwheel railway, and train.

Your journey begins in the heart of Lucerne. Hop on Bus No. 1 (direction Kriens/Obernau) right outside Lucerne’s main train station. After an easy 11-minute ride to “Kriens, Zentrum Pilatus” and a short walk, you’ll arrive at the valley station of the panoramic gondola in Kriens.

Enjoy a scenic 15-minute cable car ride to the Krienseregg middle station, where you can unwind on the sun terrace of the Krienseregg Restaurant (own cost) while kids have fun at the Pilu Land playground.

Continue your ascent with another 15-minute panoramic gondola ride to Fräkmüntegg. Here, thrill-seekers can challenge themselves at the rope park (own cost), and food lovers can sample local flavors at the self-service restaurant (own cost).

Next, board the “Dragon Ride” aerial cableway for a breathtaking 5-minute glide to the summit of Pilatus Kulm. Designed to feel like a helicopter ride, its spacious cabin and wide windows offer jaw-dropping views as you soar toward the peak.

At the summit, marvel at the 360° panorama of Lake Lucerne and the Swiss Alps. Relax in the panorama gallery or on the outdoor terrace, or take a short hike (5–10 minutes) to one of the nearby peaks. You can also dine at the Hotel Bellevue or Hotel Pilatus Kulm restaurants (own cost). With countless hiking trails, Pilatus invites you to explore the legendary Dragon Mountain at your own pace.

For your descent, hop aboard the world’s steepest cogwheel railway—built in 1889—as it winds down past dramatic rock faces, sparkling streams, and vibrant alpine meadows to Alpnachstad. From there, catch the train for a comfortable ride back to Lucerne.

The Silver Round Trip can also be taken in reverse, starting with a train ride from Lucerne. Please check the schedule for current departure times.
