A van picked us up at the hotel and quickly took us to the meeting point. From there, we took a bus to Malacca. There was a toilet break along the way, which was very helpful. Our Indian guide, Darwin, was very humorous and gave us very detailed explanations not only about Malacca but also about Malaysia as a whole and Kuala Lumpur. In Malacca, he kept an eye on the participants at all times and told us about good places to go for free time and photo spots. I think he is a wonderful guide who pays attention to even the smallest details. Lunch was also delicious. On the way back, we got off the bus near the hotel due to traffic, but he gave us detailed directions on how to walk back to the hotel. The other tall Indian male guide who accompanied us was also very attentive and made sure that no one got separated, which I appreciated. I highly recommend this tour.
I booked through a Japanese-speaking guide, but that wasn't actually the case, haha. You can get to Malacca by taking express buses and such, but I think it would be quite tiring, so I'm very glad I used this private charter! I didn't feel uneasy about the driving at all.
I rented a kebaya and Nyonya costume for 3 hours. The basic fee included the top, bottom, and front fasteners. Hair styling, hair accessories, makeup, and shoes were extra options. If you want to take photos that pay attention to every detail, I think it's best to avoid casual shoes like sneakers to create the right atmosphere. I was staying at a Peranakan-style heritage hotel, so I was able to enjoy taking photos at my leisure within the hotel. If you're not staying at the hotel, the area around Dutch Square would be a good photo spot, but it's generally quite crowded, although this may vary depending on the time of year. Also, it seemed that there was an additional charge for entering the Baba & Nyonya Heritage Museum while wearing the costume, so I didn't use it this time. Combining it with my hotel stay allowed me to fully enjoy the atmosphere of Peranakan culture, which was wonderful.
We were very fortunate to have a friendly driver who spoke Mandarin, which greatly enhanced the overall experience. The driver was very flexible with the itinerary, adjusting the pace according to our needs, ensuring we didn't feel rushed or stressed. Along the way, he proactively introduced the local history and culture, making the trip more than just visiting tourist attractions; it allowed us to gain a deeper understanding of the local stories and customs. Furthermore, the driver knew the best spots and angles for taking photos, proactively recommending locations and assisting with taking pictures, resulting in many wonderful memories. The overall service was thoughtful and professional, making the entire trip more relaxed and enjoyable.
