Pearl Harbor: A Deeper Journey Through History
Small Group Tour • Maximum 12 Guests • Approximately 6–7 Hours
Step beyond the typical Pearl Harbor visit and experience history through the eyes of a former U.S. Navy submariner and current World War II historian. This intimate small-group tour, limited to just 12 guests, offers a deeper understanding of the events leading up to the attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States’ entry into World War II, and the complex relationship between the United States and Japan.
Your journey begins at the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum, where you’ll explore remarkable aircraft and exhibits that tell the story of the Pacific War. As an added bonus, you’ll have the opportunity to visit the Top of the Tower, offering spectacular panoramic views of Pearl Harbor, Oahu’s entire leeward coast, and the dramatic Koʻolau Mountains.
Next, step aboard the legendary USS Missouri, one of the most celebrated battleships in U.S. Navy history. Discover the ship’s extraordinary wartime story and stand on the Surrender Deck, the very location where Japan formally surrendered on September 2, 1945, bringing World War II to its official conclusion.
Continue your journey by learning about the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, standing near the historic area once known as Battleship Row, where the attack unfolded. With your guide’s firsthand naval experience and historical perspective, you’ll gain insight into what happened that morning and the events that shaped the course of American and world history.
After a break for lunch, your experience continues with a visit to the USS Arizona Memorial. Before boarding the shuttle boat, guests will have an opportunity to watch a 23-minute documentary providing important context about the attack and the men who served aboard the Arizona.
You’ll then travel by shuttle boat to the memorial, built above the sunken battleship USS Arizona, where 1,177 sailors and Marines lost their lives during the attack on December 7, 1941.
At the memorial, guests will have approximately 15 minutes for quiet reflection. This portion of the experience is intentionally unguided. The Arizona Memorial is a solemn place of remembrance, and conversation and formal guiding are not appropriate in this sacred space.
