Product Info

During the tour, we'll discover the first years of Lille as a French city, after more than a century under the sovereignty of the Spanish Habsburgs.

The tour covers the period between the siege of Lille in 1667, which culminated in its conquest by the troops of Louis XIV, and 1713, the year in which the Treaty of Utrecht definitively confirmed its belonging to the Kingdom of France.

Through the city's architecture and landmarks, we'll understand the most important aspects of this period:

Why was the conquest of Lille so important to Louis XIV?

What buildings remain from this period?

How did Vauban turn Lille into one of the great fortresses of France?

How did the city evolve after its incorporation into France?

The sightseeing tour starts at the Grand Place and ends at the Citadel.

VERY IMPORTANT: The interior of the Citadelle will not be visited, as this place requires a special admission permit because it is an active military zone.
