Abha: Tour of the Dhahran Al-Janoub Heritage Town｜China

Embark on a cultural and heritage tour inside the heritage town of Dhahran Al-Janoub, located in Dhahran Al-Janoub Governorate, one of the oldest historic towns in the south of the Kingdom. It represents a distinctive model of traditional mountain architecture and the social and economic life that flourished in the region over hundreds of years.
The town lies on the historic route linking Asir and Yemen and was an important stop for trade caravans and travelers, giving it prominent economic and social status throughout history. It is also close to historical sites such as the ancient Elephant Road and is today one of the prominent historical landmarks in southern Saudi Arabia and a destination for researchers and those interested in Saudi heritage.
The experience begins with a visit to the aged historic mosque in the middle of the heritage town, which studies and documents indicate was built over a thousand years ago. The mosque captivates visitors with its architectural details and unique inscriptions. It once served as the main mosque for Friday and Eid prayers and as a center for religious education and social gatherings. Visitors will also learn about its restoration and rehabilitation and how it became part of Prince Mohammed bin Salman's project to develop historic mosques while preserving their traditional architectural character.
The tour continues through the town, one of the largest mud-brick villages, with more than 150 houses, to learn about houses where government administrative work took place and how the town's affairs were managed at that time.

The tour includes:
Standing at the site where King Fahd bin Abdulaziz (may God have mercy on him) met with the town's residents, and learning the details of this historic event and his generous directive for residents to move to another location and be granted residential land for building and housing.
The experience also includes a visit to one of the rural guesthouses and a number of mud-brick houses, to learn about the details of traditional construction, the number of floors, and the local materials used, such as stone, mud, and wood, which still stand today.
Visitors will also enjoy sampling popular folk dishes for which the heritage town and Dhahran Al-Janoub were historically known, while learning about how they were prepared and their role in traditional social life.
The tour concludes with a climb to the rooftop of one of the mud-brick buildings to enjoy a distinctive view over Wadi Al-Areen and the surrounding farms, with an explanation of the nature of the residents' farming work in these areas and the method of irrigation from the wadi.
