Combine the tropical splendor of Martinique with a tour of two of the most natural places on the island in one experience.
Jardin de Balata – A botanical paradise
The Jardin de Balata, one of the most famous botanical gardens in the Caribbean. A collection of over 3,000 tropical plant species from all over the world covers three hectares, including 300 palm species, heliconias, bromeliads, anthuriums, and rare orchids. The garden was created in 1982 by the passionate gardener Jean-Philippe Thoze around his grandparents' Creole house and invites you to take a leisurely walk through a variety of vegetation. A special highlight is the treetop path. You will have a unique view over the garden, the bay of Fort-de-France, and the Pitons du Carbet. You will discover colorful hummingbirds flitting around in the flowers. (approx. 1.5 hours)
Route des Gués – Swimming in the rainforest river
After visiting the garden, you will continue to the Route des Gués, where a completely different side of Martinique awaits you. Surrounded by dense tropical vegetation, river streams, and the sound of the rainforest, you can refresh yourself in a natural river pool. This moment is ideal for experiencing the wild, green, and quiet side of the island – far from the classic beaches and in the middle of nature. Depending on the weather and water levels, we will show you the right place to swim. In the event of persistent tropical rainfall, this excursion cannot be carried out. We will inform you in good time and, of course, you are guaranteed a full refund if the tour cannot be carried out due to tropical rain or road conditions. We will be happy to try to offer you an alternate date.
A picnic, which you can optionally book here afterwards, is an experience in the middle of the rainforest. (Approximately 2 hours)
Optional: Fort-de-France highlights (bookable separately as an add-on during the booking process)
Upon request, the tour can be extended to include a short guided stop in Fort-de-France. You will discover selected highlights of the island's capital, such as the Cathedral of Saint-Louis, the Schoelcher Library, and the lively city center with its works of art on various walls. This addition is not included in the basic tour price and must be booked separately. (approx. 45-60 min.)
