Discover the Varanasi beyond the famous landmarks.
spend six hours exploring the older, quieter and more unexpected side of Varanasi (Kashi)—with a local guide who knows the stories hidden behind its temples, houses, markets and narrow lanes.
Your experience begins at 8:00 AM in the Assi area.
You'll explore parts of the city that many visitors simply pass by—including the Assi area and Lolark Kund, an ancient sacred water tank with deep connections to local religious traditions
a short tuk-tuk ride from Assi towards Godowlia, watching the city change as you leave the riverside neighbourhood and enter the heart of the old city.
From Godowlia, the real exploration begins on foot.
Leave the main roads behind and enter the maze of Kashi's historic lanes. Walk through old markets, discover lesser-known temples, and hear stories about the neighbourhoods that have shaped Varanasi for generations.
.
As you walk deeper into the old city, your guide will bring its history to life: the rise and transformation of Kashi, its changing neighbourhoods, old traditions, stories of destruction and rebuilding, and how the city has continued to evolve while preserving its extraordinary character.
You'll also have the opportunity to see an old Varanasi house and learn how people have lived within these tightly packed neighbourhoods for generations.
Then comes one of the most atmospheric parts of the experience: the ghats.
Walk along the Ganges, moving from Panchganga Ghat towards Manikarnika Ghat. Along the way, see temples, shrines, riverside buildings, pilgrims, priests, local residents and the everyday life that makes Varanasi unlike any other city.
This is not a tour designed around ticking off famous monuments.
It is about walking through Kashi slowly enough to notice the details.
By the time you reach Manikarnika, you'll have travelled through layers of Varanasi's living history—from the lanes and markets of the old city to the sacred riverfront.
Come prepared to walk.
This is a genuine walking experience. You'll spend a substantial part of the six hours on foot, navigating narrow lanes, uneven surfaces, steps and crowded areas. Comfortable walking shoes, water and sun protection are strongly recommended.
If you want to see the side of Varanasi that exists beyond its most famous attractions, this is your invitation to get lost in Kashi.
