El Calafate: 2-Day Full Day Chaltén & Perito Moreno Glacier｜Argentina

Day 1: Perito Moreno Glacier with Guided Visit

Begin your adventure with a morning departure from El Calafate, traveling approximately 80 km to reach the walkways of the Perito Moreno Glacier, located inside Los Glaciares National Park.

During the first part of the journey, enjoy views of Lake Argentino and its Bahía Redonda, visible on the right side of the road. For the first 40 km, the landscape is dominated by the vast Patagonian steppe. As you approach the national park, the scenery gradually changes into Andean-Patagonian forest, with native trees from the Nothofagus family, including lenga, coihue, guindo, and ñire.

We made a little stop for the first panoramic views of the southern face of the glacier, providing an impressive introduction to this natural wonder, continue for another 40 km to the parking area, where the trail system leading to the walkways begins.

Once on the walkways, explore them freely until the scheduled meeting time. The network of balconies offers multiple perspectives of the glacier. At 146 meters above sea level, the Main Balcony provides an outstanding view of both the northern and southern faces of the glacier, allowing you to appreciate its immense size, deep blue ice, and constant movement. Ice calving events are common and create a truly unforgettable experience.

Day 2: Full-Day El Chaltén with Viewpoints and Waterfalls

The second day features a full-day excursion to El Chaltén, Argentina’s trekking capital, located at the foot of the Andes. Departing from El Calafate, the journey includes scenic road sections with views of rivers, mountains, and wide Patagonian landscapes.

This excursion is designed to explore El Chaltén in a relaxed and accessible way, with short and easy walks, guided visits, and free time in town. Throughout the day, be accompanied by a professional guide.

Highlights of the day include:

Glacier Viedma Viewpoint, offering panoramic views of one of the largest glaciers in Patagonia

Visit to the National Parks Interpretation Center, to learn about the region’s geology, flora, fauna, and mountaineering history

Mirador de los Cóndores, a short and gentle walk with elevated views of the valley and surrounding mountains

Chorrillo del Salto, a beautiful waterfall accessible via an easy trail through native forest

Free time in El Chaltén village, where you can stroll through the town, enjoy its mountain atmosphere, relax and enjoy
