Product Info

Join Bear Country Guiding & Consulting for an unforgettable wildlife-focused interpretive hiking adventure in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, in Banff, Yoho Kootenay and Kananaskis. Each hike includes a bear/wildlife awareness and safety field program through which we promote human-wildlife coexistence. Thus, by signing up for a trip with us you support our wildlife conservation efforts.
Our locally owned and operated company is dedicated to connecting you with the region’s spectacular landscapes and the magnificent wildlife that inhabits them. Led by our knowledgeable, professional interpretive hiking guide, who is also a biologist specialized in human-bear coexistence, your hike is designed to offer an educational and inspiring experience.
Your day begins at the Banff Train Station free parking lot or another convenient meeting place, where you’ll meet your expert guide. After driving to the trailhead, over the course of 6 to 8 hours, you will complete an easy to medium hike including several stops for breaks and interpretation. Your guide will share insights into local geology, ecosystems, wildlife ecology and conservation practices, with a special focus on grizzly and black bears. Along the way to the trailhead and back you will traverse scenic roads, stopping for wildlife observations and photo/video opportunities.
Although most of our wildlife sightings happen roadside from the safety of cars, we thrive to find opportunities for our guests to observe wildlife in their natural habitats during the actual hike. Nevertheless, we do everything on our behalf to keep a safe distance from wild animals. In fact, we educate our guests how to prevent close bear encounters and what to do if, despite all efforts, it still happens. This also includes the characteristics and use of bear spray. You can use this practical information on all of your following hikes in bear country, anywhere around the world.
Whether you are a curious traveler, an avid hiker and/or photographer, our customizable hikes are tailored to foster respect for wildlife and promote environmental stewardship. At the end of your journey, you will have lasting memories and a greater connection with the Canadian Rockies and the wildlife calling it home.
