Dryanovo heritage and prehistoric Europe from Veliko Tarnovo

Begin your exploration at the Kolyu Ficheto Museum, where exhibits, models, and drawings reveal the achievements of renowned Revival-period master builder Kolyu Ficheto. Then, continue to Lafchieva House, an elegant 19th-century merchant home constructed entirely without nails, reflecting the prosperity and refined lifestyle of the town’s past residents.

Next, visit the exhibition “Created by the Earth,” displaying minerals, gemstones, fossils, and rare crystals from around the world. Then explore Dryanovo’s distinctive outdoor landmarks, including the open-air map of Bulgaria, the historic clock tower, and the impressive Painted Chimney, a 45-meter mural by artist Krum Baldjiyski. This striking vertical artwork, among the tallest of its kind in the region, forms part of a Guinness World Record attempt and presents Bulgarian history through vivid “rings of time.”

Cross the emblematic Kolyu Ficheto Bridge, before continuing to the peaceful Dryanovo Monastery, set within a dramatic canyon. Its museum reveals the site’s ancient roots, role during the National Revival and April Uprising, and the long Ottoman siege it endured.

The experience ends at Bacho Kiro Cave, one of Europe’s most significant prehistoric sites, where some of the continent’s earliest modern human remains were discovered.
