Take a trip to Akumal Monkey Sanctuary for a family-friendly guided tour. Meet the animals that call this place home – including over 20 different species – and hear about how they were rescued. You'll see colourful macaws, friendly snakes and playful monkeys, as well as learn about their natural behaviours from a knowledgeable guide. Plus, you'll find out about the sanctuary's conservation efforts – it's a great way for kids to understand why supporting these animals is so important. There are some exciting extras you can add to this tour for an extra fee too, like a swim in a cenote or snorkelling with tuirtles. Just a heads-up, transport isn't included in this tour.

  • The use of cell phones is not permitted during the monkey interaction for their own safety

  • Wearing jewellery is not recommended, particularly for women, as it may attract the monkey's attention. This could result in personal belongings being taken or in accidental scratches or minor injuries by the animals during the interaction

  • Children must be supervised by an adult (over 18 years) at all time

  • Bring a hat

  • Bring insect repellent

  • Bring bathing gear and sunblock

  • Bring money for extras or gratuities

  • Food and drinks not included
