【Product Description】

You can tour the quiet tourist spots of Gunwi-gun, which was incorporated into Daegu in July 2023.

  • Gunwi Samjon Seokgul Cave
It was founded by Geukdal Hwasang in the 15th year of King Soji of Silla (493). The stone cave is located 20m above the ground, the cave entrance is 4.25m high, the cave depth is 4.3m, the floor is flat, and the shape is square. The ceiling is highest in the center and gradually lowers around the sky, giving it the shape of the sky.
Inside the stone cave, there is the main Buddha, Amitabha Buddha, and on the left and right are the Great Compassion Bodhisattva and Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva. The main Buddha is shown with his head shaved and his face is plump, large, and solemn.
Both ears are long, the neck is stretched out in a straight line, and the shoulders covered with the robe have a delicate and elegant appearance that makes it seem as if white flesh is visible.
His shoulders were broad and he had a large physique, and his robe, with its simple yet elegant pattern, was wide and covered the entire front of the seat.
Silla Buddhism, which was transmitted from Goguryeo, blossomed at the foot of Mt. Palgongsan and was transmitted to Gyeongju, the capital of Silla, where it bore fruit.
The mountain range extending from Palgongsan Birobong Peak forms a huge rocky cliff here, and at the waist of this cliff, 20m high, a round natural cave facing south enshrines the three Buddha statues, which are called Seomjonseokgul Cave.
During the persecution period before Buddhism was officially recognized by Silla (King Beopheung), it was a place where people practiced Buddhism in secret, and it became the origin of the Seokguram Grotto in Tohamsan, Gyeongju, built in the mid-8th century.
  • Sayuwon (optional tour) / Entrance fee separate
💰 Weekday Adults: 50,000 won / Weekday Students: 45,000 won
💰 Weekends and holidays Adults: 69,000 won / Weekends and holidays Students: 62,000 won
Sayuwon is a quiet space for contemplation, with trees that have survived the ravages of time, stone statues shaped like hearts, and beautiful architecture.
It is a true garden of 'thought' that goes one step further than a simple arboretum tour and allows you to reflect on yourself and think deeply while walking around the garden.
Architects Seung Hyo-sang, Alvaro Siza, and Choi Wook, as well as experts from various fields such as landscape architect Jeong Yeong-seon and calligrapher Wei Liang, participated in the creation of the garden, and representative spaces include Soyoheon, Myeongjeong, and Pungseolgicheonnyeon.
  • Cardinal Kim Soo-hwan Love and Sharing Park
This is a space where you can look back on the life of Cardinal Kim Soo-hwan, who was born in 1922 as the son of a potter.
This is a restored house where Cardinal Kim Soo-hwan lived with his family as a child. The appearance of the old house with three thatched rooms has a narrow porch and low eaves, giving it a rustic feel that adds to the sentimentality.
Although he is the first cardinal of Korea and a historical figure respected by many regardless of religion, he shows that he was born and raised in a small thatched house during his childhood.
At the entrance, there is a pottery kiln site and it is connected to the Park of Love and Sharing, which has the Forest of Peace and the Way of the Cross.
The memorial hall, which is connected to the cardinal's life and spirit, is a meaningful space where you can look back on the cardinal's life and spirit, and you can also see the history of the cardinal's life, including his sculptures and his priestly attire.
  • Hwabon Station / Admission fee separate
💰 Hwabon Station Admission Fee: 1,000 won for adults and children
Hwabon Station is a station on the Jungang Line located in Gunwi-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and is more famous as a tourist attraction than for train users.
It is a representative tourist destination of Gunwi, selected as one of the most beautiful train stations in the country, and has also appeared in various programs such as movies and entertainment shows.
It is also a station that holds the painful history of the Japanese colonial era.

  • Mom and Dad When I was young / Admission fee separate
💰 Mom and Dad When I was young Admission fee: Middle school students ~ adults: 3,000 won / 3 years old ~ elementary school students: 2,500 won / Groups of 25 or more: 1,500 won
'When Mom and Dad Were Young' is a nostalgic theme museum that allows visitors to experience life in the 1960s and 1970s by remodeling the old Sanseong Middle School near Hwabon Station.
The school of memories has been recreated as it was in the countryside from 40-50 years ago, including a classroom, a barber shop, a photo studio, a music store, a comic book store, a stationery store, a hole-in-the-wall store, and a briquette store.
This is a tourist attraction in Gunwi that many tourists visit for nostalgic trips or filming locations, as it has many experiential elements such as old school uniforms, old games, and horseback riding.
