FAQ

1. What are the main ways to travel to Siargao Island?

The primary way to get to Siargao Island is by plane. You can fly to Sayak Airport (IAO) on Siargao Island via connecting flights from Manila or Cebu in the Philippines. After arriving at the airport, you can take a taxi, van, or pre-arranged transfer to reach major areas on the island, such as General Luna. It is recommended to book flights and island transfers in advance to ensure a smooth trip.

2. What unique water activities does the Sugba Lagoon in Siargao offer?

Sugba Lagoon is renowned for its emerald-green, crystal-clear waters and surrounding lush mangroves, offering a variety of water activities. Visitors can experience thrilling diving and jumping activities from the wooden platforms into the lagoon. Additionally, renting a stand-up paddleboard (SUP) or kayak for a leisurely paddle across the calm lagoon while admiring the pristine natural scenery is also a very popular choice.

3. Do I need to consider the tides when visiting Magpupungko Rock Pools? What is the best time to visit?

When visiting Magpupungko Rock Pools, it is essential to be aware of the tide times. These unique natural rock pools are only fully visible during low tide, forming crystal-clear natural swimming pools. During high tide, the pools are submerged by seawater and inaccessible. Therefore, the best time to visit is typically within two hours before or after low tide. It is recommended to check the local tide table in advance to plan the most suitable itinerary.

4. What is special about Naked Island in Siargao, and what activities do visitors usually do there?

The uniqueness of Naked Island lies in it being a sandbar composed entirely of white sand, with no trees or structures. It presents a raw and pure beauty. Visitors come here primarily to sunbathe, swim in the clear waters, or stroll along the beach and feel the sea breeze. Due to its distinctive landscape, Naked Island is also a popular spot for photos, allowing for stunning shots with a pure background and the horizon line.

5. What is the best season to visit Naked Island, Magpupungko Rock Pools, and Sugba Lagoon in Siargao?

The best season to visit Siargao Island's Naked Island, Magpupungko Rock Pools, and Sugba Lagoon is generally during the dry season, which runs from March to October each year. During this period, the weather is sunny with less rainfall, and the seawater is clear, making it ideal for water activities and island exploration. Particularly from July to September, although it's the peak surfing season, it's also very suitable for general sightseeing. It's advisable to avoid the rainy season from November to February to ensure a comfortable trip.

6. What are important pre-trip preparations or recommendations when visiting Siargao's Naked Island, Magpupungko Rock Pools, and Sugba Lagoon?

When visiting these natural attractions on Siargao Island, it is recommended to bring sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses to protect your skin from the tropical sun. Wear swimwear and bring slippers or water shoes for easy movement on the beach and in the rock pools. A waterproof bag can protect electronic devices. Additionally, since some areas may not have ATMs, it is advisable to carry sufficient cash. Most importantly, be sure to check the tide times for Magpupungko Rock Pools in advance.

7. Are there recommended photo spots at Naked Island, Magpupungko Rock Pools, and Sugba Lagoon in Siargao?

Each attraction on Siargao Island offers unique photographic appeal. Naked Island: Its expansive white sand beach and clear waters provide an ideal backdrop for capturing horizon-line landscapes, creating minimalist and pure beautiful photos. Magpupungko Rock Pools: The natural rock pools revealed during low tide, with their unique rock formations and clear waters, are perfect for taking underwater portraits, diving shots, or images blending with the natural environment. Sugba Lagoon: The famous diving platform, the emerald lagoon waters, and the surrounding mangroves offer rich compositional elements, making it ideal for capturing the dynamic beauty of water activities.

8. Does a Siargao Island tour include a special lunch? What does the meal consist of?

Yes, many Siargao Island tours include a special lunch, typically enjoyed on a beach or a scenic small island. The meal usually consists of local specialties like grilled meats, fresh seafood, rice, and fruits. This dining style, known as a 'Boodle Fight,' involves arranging all the food abundantly on banana leaves for everyone to share, offering an authentic Filipino culinary experience and adding a unique travel dimension.
