Charming local snacks are hidden in every corner of Cebu. For instance, 'Puso,' which is rice wrapped in woven coconut leaves in a heart shape, is an excellent accompaniment to barbecued dishes or main courses. There's also 'Chicharon' (crispy pork rinds) for a crunchy texture. Adventurous eaters can try 'Ginabot' (deep-fried pork intestines) or 'Tuslob Buwa' (pork brain stew served with Puso). These snacks not only offer unique flavors but also reflect the daily dietary culture of the locals.

For authentic fresh seafood, Cebu offers several options. Many tourists head to the 'Pasar Pescado' (Fish Market) to select freshly caught seafood for the day, then have it cooked by restaurants around the market. This 'paluto' service ensures freshness and authentic flavor. Cebu also boasts numerous seafood-themed restaurants offering various grilled, steamed, or soup dishes. It's advisable to choose establishments with many patrons and good reviews to ensure ingredient quality.

Cebu and Manila each have their unique culinary offerings, but considering a family dining experience, Cebu holds several advantages. Cebu's cuisine primarily features grilled meats, fresh seafood, and simple cooking methods, with flavors that are generally more crowd-pleasing and easier for all age groups to enjoy. Many restaurants also offer a relaxed ambiance, ideal for family gatherings. While Manila's culinary scene is diverse, it might include more fusion dishes or complex flavors that require more careful selection for families.

Cebu's rainy season generally does not significantly impact local food options. Most restaurants, food courts, and hotel dining services operate normally, offering a wide variety of dishes. While outdoor dining experiences might be limited by weather, indoor dining choices remain abundant. Seafood supply is not interrupted by the rainy season, as local fishermen continue to go out to sea. In fact, the rainy season can sometimes be a cozy time to enjoy hearty soups or grilled dishes.

Tipping in Cebu restaurants is usually flexible and discretionary. Many mid-to-high-end establishments include a service charge (Service Charge) on the bill. If a service charge is included, additional tipping is not expected, though a small amount of change can be given as a token of appreciation. If no service charge is added, a tip of 5% to 10% of the total bill is customary, depending on the quality of service. Cash payment is most common, but some larger restaurants or chains also accept credit cards. It's advisable to carry sufficient cash for convenience.

Food expenses in Cebu are highly flexible and depend on your dining habits. If you prefer street food, local markets, or budget-friendly eateries, costs will be more affordable. For example, a simple meal with Puso can be very economical. Opting for mid-range restaurants or specialties like roast pig will increase the budget. Dining at high-end restaurants or within hotels will incur higher costs. It's recommended to adjust your daily food budget flexibly based on your expected dining experiences.

To ensure dining safety, it's recommended to choose restaurants or stalls with high customer traffic and clean environments, as these usually have fresher ingredients due to faster turnover. Observe if food is prepared to order and avoid dishes that have been sitting out for a long time. Always drink bottled water and avoid tap water or ice cubes from unknown sources. If you have concerns about the hygiene of raw food or street food, opt for thoroughly cooked items. Carrying hand sanitizer or alcohol-based hand rub and cleaning your hands before meals is also a crucial habit during your trip.
